Research excellence scholarships and awards As part of Swansea’s commitment to supporting the very best researcher talent we offer a number of fully funded PhDs across disciplines through our flagship programmes: the Swansea University Research Excellence Scholarships (SURES) and Swansea University Strategic Partner Research Scholarships (SUSPRS). Both scholarships offer a number of fully funded PhD places to researchers wanting to develop their ideas, alongside providing excellent supervision and equipping doctoral researchers with the skills to complete their thesis within three years. SURES recognises excellent academic achievement and aims to attract the very best research talent from across all subject areas to Swansea University.

As a world leading research institution, we are part of a number of prestigious UKRI funded doctoral initiatives. We bring together experts and support our doctoral students to become the leading researchers of tomorrow in a supportive environment with access to additional development opportunities such as working or studying overseas and placements with industry partners. Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC) As part of the ESRC Wales DTP Swansea hosts eleven pathways: Bilingualism, Criminology, Data Science, Health and Wellbeing, Digital Economy and Society, Economics, Empirical Studies in Law, Human Geography, Linguistics, Management and Business, Psychology, and Sport and Exercise Science. Students are recruited in two ways: Collaborative Call, in which you can apply for predetermined projects that include non-academic partners and General Call, in which you can develop your PhD studentship proposal. Doctoral Training Partnership (DTP) Collaborative studentships hosted by Swansea University include partners such as the NSPCC, the NHS, Royal United Services Institute (RUSI), Welsh Government, Brecon Beacons National Park, Welsh Water, Oxford University Press and the Multiple Sclerosis Society.

SUSPRS offers joint partnership PhDs with the student usually spending 50% of their time with the partner institution. The scholarships cover tuition fees and an annual stipend, and an allowance to support immersive training experiences, engagement with industry, international collaborative opportunities and cohort building. we recognise and celebrate academic attainment through the James Callaghan awards, providing current Swansea research students funding to
