CAR SPOTTING Dear pupils, parents, carers and friends

We have now set up a group of children ready to prevent adults from parking badly on the roads outside of our school. It has now been an ongoing hazard for children and families, where some parents think they have the right to stop in the middle of the road, on double yellow lines or event on zig zags. This behaviour could lead to a child being injured or even killed, which is horrible to hear. If you spot bad parking, please have a word with the driver 'politely' but do not put yourself in danger. Please report anything that you are unhappy with to our school office, giving as much detail as you can about the make, model and registration number of the car. Our school and family need safe roads because we have the right to be safe on the school run. If you wish to park inconsiderately - think again, because if you did then our children's lives are in danger and even parents and carers KEEPING US SAFE Firstly, I had to walk to the zone so that the Junior PCSOs could talk with PC Dakin, PCSO Evans and Mrs Flanagan about road safety. They welcomed me to the PCSO team and congratulated me on being selected for the role. I didn't know that we were actually going outside on Parking Patrol. So after my shock, I put on my PCSO hat, the high-vis jacket and sent my bag to the office. When we were ready, we walked out of school. I was in Mrs Flanagan's group, with my partner Esme. We walked a little way down the road. I saw a company van park on the double yellow lines. He was causing an obstruction so we copied down his number plate and telephone number for the Police. After that, we saw another person park on the double yellow lines. This time we knocked on the window of the car and said, in a polite way “Excuse me but do you know that you are parked on a double yellow line?”. The man replied and showed us a blue disabled parking badge which allowed him to park in the spot. Finally it was time to go. We felt proud of ourselves for doing an important role for the safety of our school. From Millie Wood, Junior PCSO are at risk of being hurt. Stay safe on our roads. From Margot Sergeant, Junior PCSO
