THE

Litter and Water Looking after our Earth

EVERY LITTER HELPS! On Monday 4th June, Angela from Litter Watch came in and lead a fascinating assembly. We spoke about different types of bins and their purposes. She said that we need to be careful when using the black bins as they aren't used correctly. A lot of waste ends up going to the landfill rather than being recycled. Do you recycle properly? We also learnt about where rubbish goes and the process of recycling. It was very interesting and we learnt lots! Lastly, a song came on about rubbish and recycling and Captain Superbin made an appearance. He danced to the song and it was very lively. Think before you bin it! Thanks to Phoebe Need, 5M, Amanpreet Aujla 5H and Isla Marsh 5W for the story SEVERN TRENT VISITS ABBEY! During the assembly on Tuesday, a lovely man called Justin from Severn Trent came to talk to us about how we can reduce water being wasted and the process of turning river water into drinking water. We couldn't believe the transformation of the water, from dirty, brown water full of soil and animal waste, to clean, fresh water which is good to drink. It was very interesting! Did you know that when water is clean, it travels in blue pipes and waste water travels in brown pipes to the sewers? We were also surprised to hear that wipes shouldn't go in the toilet as they take 100 years to break down! We played a great game about wasting and saving water too. Thanks to Martha Gapper-Hughes, 5W, Sam Hewings, 5M and Phoebe Ash, 5H for the story.
