BBEY LENS June 2018 Vol 4: Issue No.Fifty six Excellence Through Partnership

THE

Sainsbury’s Games Eagles and birdies

FORE! On Thursday 24th May 10 children represented Abbey in the Sainsbury's School Games Tri Golf competition at Oldbury Academy. We had a mix of experience within our team- many had never played golf before and one or two play golf regularly. It was fantastic to see the boys and girls support each other and every single one of them got better and better throughout the competition. Staff were blown away by how quickly the team picked up the skills and were able to produce some excellent golf on the day. So much so, that the team scored the highest ever Abbey total at this competition and earned themselves a silver medal, finishing 2nd out of 14 schools. The team will now go on to represent Sandwell at the Black Country School Games Finals. Well Done!! Thanks to Miss Hinton for the story. EGGCELLENT TREAT! 5M decided that we would like chicks for our marble prize so we spoke to Dr Kentish nicely and he said ‘yes!’ We had 16 eggs delivered and we get to keep them for nearly 2 weeks. Within 24 hours, Miss Monk heard chirping (which occurs when they enter the air sac) and soon after we spotted a crack! This is called 'pipping' which is the initial breaking of the shell. We are so excited to see the chicks hatch and next week we will get to handle them. Watch the Abbey Lens and the website for an update! Good luck chicks! Thanks to Jessica Shrewsbury 5M for the story.
