PimaCare at Home

The Katie Introducing thekatie.org!

PimaCare at Home is eager to invest and retain direct care workers by providing enhanced training opportunities. PCAH

has been an Arizona certified Direct Care Worker training site for several years. This training certification is offered to DCWs within the first 90 days employment with a non-medical homecare agency providing service to ALTCS members. While this training provides a foundation for caregivers, we believe that an enhanced training provides a stronger foundation for DCWs. The training blends critical knowledge with the hands- on skills necessary to excel as a DCW, providing clients the highest quality of care. While this training includes the essential material from the AZ State Direct Care Worker Training, it also incorporates interactive exercises, expanded scope of durable medical equipment training, enhanced cultural sensitivity training, the use of technology and hands on skill development in a setting designed to simulate a realistic home environment. This training is offered in both English and Spanish languages as well as to family caregivers. In addition to the DCW training PCAH creates continuing education opportunities which provide caregivers with the most up to date information and skills. In November PCAH held in-service trainings for caregivers virtually and in person. These trainings highlight not only topics that are mandated by the state but topics DCWs request more training on when working with clients. We believe that listening to our caregivers and offering trainings they are interested in helps build their confidence and become more invested in their work. With the help of several donors, we were able to raffle away gifts to our amazing Direct Care Workers as an additional thank you for their hard work. Thank you to Oro Valley Marketplace Cinemark, PeachWave Frozen Yogurt, Smashburger, Oro Valley Sprouts and Oro Valley Target for your donations. There is a cost associated with the DCW training. The Katie is the name of both the virtual community center website at thekatie.org, and the physical Katie Dusenberry Healthy Aging Center, located at 600 S. Country Club Road. The Katie serves as a hub for aging services and a place for our community to discover the array of services that we and our community partners offer to support healthy aging. The Katie is named for Katie Dusenberry, a long-time friend and supporter, former PCOA Board Chair, and national advocate for aging issues. There’s something for everyone at The Katie!
