PMMI Scholarships Support Future Workforce In 2017, PMMI Foundation, PMMI, The Association for Packaging and Processing Technologies, awarded more than $140,000 in scholarships to support the development of a skilled workforce capable of mov- ing the packaging and processing industry forward. Each year through the PMMI Foundation, PMMI pro- vides scholarships to students studying packaging, food processing, engineering and mechatronics at PMMI Partner Schools throughout the United States and Canada. As one example, at PACK EXPO Las Vegas 2017, $30,000 in PACK EXPO Scholarships were awarded to six students demonstrating a commitment to pack- aging and processing through academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. The PMMI Foundation raises funds at industry-sup- ported events like the PMMI Foundation golf tourna- ment, PACK Gives Back, the Amazing Packaging Race and donations from individuals at PMMI member companies and the industry. Applications for 2018 scholarships are now open. Nestlé Aims For 100% Reusable Packaging By 2025 Nestlé hopes to make 100 percent of its packaging recyclable or re-usable by 2025. Its vision is that none of its packaging, including plastics, ends up in landfill. The company focuses on three core areas: eliminate non-recyclable plastics; encourage the use of plastics that allow better recycling rates; and eliminate or change complex combinations of packaging materials. Recognizing the need for developing a circular economy, Nestlé is committed to: • Playing an active role in the development of well- functioning collection, sorting and recycling schemes across the countries where we operate; • Working with value chain partners and industry associations to explore different packaging solutions to reduce plastic usage, facilitate recycling and devel- op new approaches to eliminate plastic waste; • Labeling plastic product packaging with recycling information to help consumers dispose of it in the right way; • Promoting a market for recycled plastics by con- tinuing to increase the proportion of recycled plas- tics in our packaging; • Preventing packaging material ending up as waste, including in seas, oceans and waterways is one of the key reasons behind Nestlé’s pledge.
