BLAIR ATHOLL IS NO 1 CLUB FOR OVERALL FACILITIES
BLAIR ATHOLL HAS EMERGED ON TOP of a new Golf Digest ranking of the Best Clubs in South Africa. We allocated points to clubs on their current positions in the Facilities rankings, measuring the six categories most important to members and visitors – Practice Facilities, Locker Room, Halfway House, Service, Pro Shop and, last but not least, 19th Hole. The 10 clubs which stood out in this overall assessment are listed below. Tied for second place were Royal Johannesburg and Leopard Creek, which edged out The Links at Fancourt and The Club at Steyn City. Blair Atholl was No 1 in Service, Leopard Creek has the No 1 Locker Room, The Links at Fancourt the No 1 Halfway House, Pearl Valley the No 1 Practice Facility, while Stellenbosch and Southbroom were No 1 for 19th Hole and Pro Shop respectively. Interestingly, the Top 10 clubs don’t necessarily have the top-ranked courses, although they are all in the Top 50. Four have courses in the Top 10, and three others in the Top 20. Blair Atholl was rated in the Top 5 in five of the six facility categories. A runner-up in Halfway House and Practice Facility. The weak link was a ranking of No 24 for 19th Hole. Royal Johannesburg was in the Top 10 in five facilities, the exception being No 12 for Practice. Leopard Creek matched Royal with its number of Top 10s, and like Blair Atholl had its worst position for 19th Hole at No 23. Newcomers to the Top 10 in the various facility categories were Mount Edgecombe (Practice), Pinnacle Point (Locker), George & Simola (Service), Eagle Canyon & St Francis Links (Pro Shop), Royal Joburg, Pearl Valley & De Zalze (Halfway), Humewood, Royal Joburg, The Links at Fancourt & Somerset West (19th Hole). This category evaluates clubs based on all-round points for Practice Facilities, 19th Hole, Service, Halfway House, Locker Room and Pro Shop. BEST CLUB
