The Eastern Ontario Health Unit (EOHU) is reminding residents about the importance of updating their immunizations. The EOHU is now offering the Tdap vaccine, a three-in- one booster that protects against tetanus, diphtheria, and pertussis (whooping cough). Pertussis is a serious disease that has been on the rise in recent years among teenag- ers and adults—who can then spread it to infants and younger children. The Tdap vac- cine can protect today’s teens and adults whose childhood immunization may have worn off. Getting the vaccine can also indirectly help protect newborns and children too young to be vaccinated. The Tdap vaccine is recommended for: Children 7 years of age and older who missed their childhood series of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis vaccination, adolescents between 14 and 16 years of age (up to 18 years of age if dose is missed), and adults (19 to 64 years of age) who missed their adolescent dose. These Christmas trees may be a real steal Someone may have some “hot” Christmas trees for a quick cold cash sale. The police would like a chat with that person. OPP Const. Mario Gratton has a regular Grinch-stealing-Christmas case on his hands with the theft of 150 Christmas trees from a local tree farm. The Yuletide thievery occurred sometime during the Dec. 1 weekend. Police received a call from the Pépinière Ridge Road tree farm in The Nation Municipal- ity on Dec. 1. Someone gained access to the tree farm overnight either Saturday or Sunday and left with 150 trees dedicated for the Christmas season. Anyone with information on the theft or suspicious bargain-price Christmas tree sales is asked to call the Hawkesbury OPP detachment at 613-632-2729 or toll-free at 1-888-310-1122, or the CrimeStoppers toll-free confidential tips line at 1-800-222-8477. Youth assault An Embrun youth has a provincial court date in early January. OPP received a call Dec. 4 about a disturbance on Ménard Street in Embrun. The officers answer- ing the report found two youths at the location, one of whom had minor injuries. The two had been in an argument that escalated into a scuffle, resulting in the injuries. A 16-year-old Embrun youth is now charged with assault and will answer to the charge Jan. 8 in provincial youth court in L’Orignal. His name is withheld under the terms of the Youth Criminal Justice Act. Impaired driver A speed check on Highway 417 near Casselman resulted in a drunk driving charge. Jake Knoppers, 68, of Montréal, QC, is charged with impaired driving and with driving while his blood-alcohol content exceeded 80 milligrams. He is scheduled for a first appearance to plead to the charges on Dec. 18 in provincial court in L’Orignal. CrimeStoppers Anyone with information about a crime, past or present, which can help to resolve a case can call the CrimeStoppers confidential tips line, toll-free, at 1-800- 222-8477.
