As an example, while we’re absolute experts related to the New Jer - sey market, some companies looking for property in the state only want to interact with a large, national firm. My father, who always gave me excellent advice on how to be persistent, stay calm, and communicate effectively by listening more than I talk. Through the years, I’ve done my best to pass this same wisdom down to my children. Who was most influen- tial in your life related to choosing a profession? Frank Brown of Brown & Brown, which was one of the most influential real estate companies during the 1950s and ‘60s. He helped me set up my office when I started out on my own, had tremendous in- fluence on my decision to focus on industrial and commercial real estate, and introduced me to important property owners and developers. All in all, he was a great mentor. What were some of your early goals? From the very beginning, I was focused on establishing a small real estate company, educating salespeople, and cre- ating opportunity for anyone in my family who was interested in this field. Nearly six decades later, our company is thriving and my two daughters are members of the Sheldon Gross Realty team. So I’d say things turned out pretty well. What is your most notable project, deal, or transaction? For more than two decades, I managed 10 properties in Fairfield, NJ for three inter-related partnerships. At the beginning of this ar- rangement, the properties weren’t in the best shape – physically or financially. But, we ultimately brought them back to profitability, these are a few of my favorite things Colleges: University of Illinois (bachelor’s) and Seton Hall University (MBA)

all 10 properties to investors in transactions that totaled more than $34 million.
