WHATEVER IT TAKES TO BUILD GREAT FUTURES
2020-2021 ANNUAL REPORT
A LETTER FROM THE CEO
Dear Community Friend and Supporter,
As the end of year nears, we reflect on the many reasons to be grateful in anticipation of a new year, 2022. This year has been a hard one. Yet, we have demonstrated how we can overcome challenges through the power of togetherness. Together , we have provided over 1,000 COVID-19 vaccinations to underserved communities to ensure equity in access. Together , we have provided 140 youth access to summer employment opportunities, earning an income for themselves and to help support their families. Together , we have embarked on the largest initiative in the history of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County with the McKenzie Regional Workforce Center, to make sure youth have options to skilled trades careers pathways, equal to our college career pathway. Through YOUR generosity, we: • Supported over 4,000 youth and families, through education & career development, health & wellness, character & leadership, sports & recreation, and family engagement enrichment programming. • Provided over 5,000 community meals when food insecurity was at its highest • Led the coordination of the 1st African American statue being erected on any state capitol grounds, honoring the legacy of Vel Phillips. We have accomplished so much together, and there is still much work to do. We thank you for your support in this year. It’s because of YOU, we can make a lasting impact on the lives of young people and families. We remain committed to our mission - “to inspire and empower all young people, especially those who need us themost”. As we continue tomove our mission forward, we know we have a greater impact, together. Please support our youth and their futures. On behalf of our members, families, and community, THANK YOU, for your past and future monetary gifts.

ANNUAL HIGHLIGHTS
YOUTH OF THE YEAR
Since 1947, Youth of the Year has been Boys & Girls Clubs of America’s premier recognition program, celebrating the extraordinary achievements of Club members. Each year, one exceptional young person from a Boys & Girls Club rises to the role of Youth of the Year. The Youth of the Year serves as both an exemplary ambassador for Boys & Girls Club youth and as a strong voice for all of our nation’s young people. Vanessa has been a member of the Boys & Girls Clubs for four years, and just graduated with the Madison East Class of 2021. Vanessa has showcased her leadership skills through her participation in various Club programs (DCE, YLSC, YOY) and in her school activities. Vanessa hopes to become a Child Psychologist and is studying Psychology at UW- Madison.
“Throughout my journey with the Boys and Girls Club I have developed skills and supportive relationships with my peers, mentors, and staff. I believe the mission of this Club aligns with my values and I’m glad I have the opportunity to be a part of this community. Becoming an advocate is easier than it sounds because anyone can make a difference and it’s never too late to start.”

MCKENZIE REGIONAL WORKFORCE CENTER
BGCDC and Madison Area Builders Association (MABA) are on a path to addressing the shortage of trained skilled trades workers by establishing a Regional Skilled Trades Training Center and Program. The building is being purchased and donated to BGCDC by John McKenzie and family. The NEW Center and Program will mean creating opportunities for youngadults toaccess resources, programming, andsupport systems that will mitigate achievement gaps, create economic opportunities, accelerate economic mobility and generate transformational change for families in South Central Wisconsin. The skilled trades job market in Madison, Wisconsin and the surrounding area is very active. As of April 30, 2021, the average annual pay for the skilled trades jobs category in Madison is $42,024 a year. The McKenzie Regional Workforce Center will educate and support interested youth (16-24) to pursue careers as plumbers, carpenters, HVAC technicians, and electricians, to name just a few of the possibilities. Curriculum will also include entrepreneurial classes to show our youth how they can potentially build a business in the construction trades. The Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County and Madison Area Builders Association are raising funds for an endowment to ensure the center is self-sustaining. We appreciate the support of all our partners, our donors and the community for helping to make this the largest regional skilled trades workforce center in Wisconsin.

URBAN LAND INTERESTS DONATES OFFICE ON CAPITAL SQUARE Urban Land Interests donated a prime location on Capitol Square to Boys & Girls Clubs of Dane County. The space at 1 N Pinckney Street will become home to BGCDC, Feeding The Youth, Madison 365 and the Black Men Coalition of Dane County, and will function as a volunteer center for theCluband training space for nonprofits. BGCDC will work with nonprofit organizations and small minority owned businesses to host events and pop-up shops in the retail portion of the building. “We are thankful for Urban Land Interest for donating this space and very excited for our community partners,” says Michael Johnson, President and CEO of BGCDC. “We are committed to doing some phenomenal things here.” The lot at 1 N Pinckney Street was originally occupied by the American House Hotel, owned and operated by one of Madison’s first Black businessman, Beverly Jefferson. After the hotel burned down in 1868, the current building was built in 1871 and would become home to Park Savings Bank and then American Exchange Bank. Most recently, it housed the American Family Dreambank, a hub for entrepreneurship and innovation, until they moved a few blocks down East Washington.
