Dr. Gene Slocum is a Whitefish, Montana native and is a proud, US Army veteran. He served in the United State Army from 1987-1991 and as a Squad Leader/Sergeant he supervised, trained, and fought in an Airborne infantry mortar platoon during two military campaigns, including Operation Just Cause and Operation Desert Storm, without suffering any platoon casualties. He joined the Bridger Orthopedic Team as a non-opioid interventional pain management specialist in 2011. His post-secondary education began with earning his Bachelor of Science in Environmental Biology from the University of Colorado in Boulder. He attended St. Georges University School of Medicine and completed his internship at Frankford Hospital in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. His residency followed at SUNY Upstate, Syracuse, New York. Dr. Slocum then chose to move into private practice for two years with the Teton Healing Center in Casper,

Wyoming. Working as a physiatrist in both inpatient and outpatient settings, he treated patients with various medical issues including traumatic brain injuries, spinal cord injuries, musculoskeletal injuries, joint replacement, rehabilitation and pain management. In Casper he also performed electrodiagnostic studies. Having an understanding of real- world applications and the benefits to patients, Dr. Slocum was accepted into and completed the Interventional Pain Management Fellowship training program with SUNY Upstate, Syracuse, NY. This program enabled him to gain a comprehensive knowledge base in many aspects of interventional pain management including Transforaminal and Interlaminar Epidural Steroid Injections, Medial Branch Blocks, Interarticular Facet Blocks, Intrathecal Pump and Dorsal Column Stimulator placements, Cryoablation, Radio Frequency Ablation, Botulinum Toxin Injections, Regional Blocks and covering Acute Pain Service.

Dr. Slocum works with an average of 3500 patients annually and provides physical medicine and rehab for his patients specializing in conservative treatments of spinal pain and various peripheral pain syndromes. These treatment options include Injection Therapy and Spinal Cord Stimulation. He believes in continuity of care and consistently works with both traditional and alternative providers including Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists, Chiropractors, Acupuncturists, and Massage Therapists to find the most successful treatment options for his patients. He has an acute understanding of how chronic pain can limit quality of life for his patients and works diligently to discover individualized treatment options to help them return to the lives they want to live. Dr. Slocum is the president of the Rocky Mountain Surgical Center Board. He is very active and enjoys scuba diving, riding his Harley Davidson motorcycle, and flying as a private pilot.
