Social Buzz

Events are an escape from everyday life. The event experience drives attendance and repeat visits so it is important that big events connect with local communities. Higher levels of community engagement increase participation overall in the event. Understanding how an event is experienced helps organisers to create events that meet social impact objectives. Well designed big events generate a Social Buzz that is driven by community engagement.

Get the word out, create excitement, and encourage local ownership of big events.

What is Social Buzz ?

Social Buzz is the combined sense of anticipation and preparation before the event; excitement during the event; and recollection of memorable experiences and emotions after the event. Social Buzz can be divided into four types; all of which are linked to different forms of event experiences: • Affective Buzz: how people feel about the event and what emotional response they have to it. • Cognitive Buzz: how people perceive their experience - e.g., compared to past events. • Physical Buzz: what people do at the event, including physical activity. • Novelty Buzz: peoples’ sense that the event is distinct, unique and outside of their everyday life. Working out which types of Social Buzz contribute to visitors wanting to attend, recommend and return to a big event is a complex job. There are resources available for doing this, such as Social Impact Monitoring Tools .
