Keep it Local

While a community’s greatest asset is no doubt its people, communities also have their own local infrastructure, such as schools, businesses, community centres and sports pitches. These are waiting to be called into action to support a big event. Using local facilities helps root the event within the community, supporting active engagement and building local pride. When delivering a big event, think Keep it Local . This should be the first choice before considering making temporary or permanent infrastructure investments.

Build engagement around what already exists in the community.

Asset Mapping is the route to local success

Identifying connections between people and infrastructure during the Collaboration Kick-Off is essential for maximising local infrastructure use during the event. Without this knowledge, social impact opportunities will be reduced, and event costs may increase unnecessarily. The Gameplan Asset Mapping Template provides further information to get started.

Social impact has no event borders

Of course, some communities and facilities will be geographically closer to the action, but event location should not restrict participation. Involving as many people and facilities as possible builds relationships and improves event outcomes. Following an event portfolio strategy of delivering different events at different times helps achieve this goal by spreading events across communities. This approach maximises social benefits and minimises event fatigue from repeated involvement by the same communities.
