Collaboration Kick-On

Events provide a sparkler for community engagement and impact, but their effects do not sustain themselves. Sustainability must be planned for and managed locally. The event has been and gone, so now is the time to ensure that all the good work that went into planning for social impact is not wasted. A Collaboration Kick-On is an opportunity for event stakeholders to: • Celebrate what social impacts have been achieved. • Evaluate how working together has gone in practice. • Agree how to sustain social impacts and community engagement in the long term.

Celebrate and strengthen collaborations through sustainability planning.

How Don’t let the sparkler go out

When we believe in the work we are doing, we want to find ways of keeping it going; making it a permanent part of the community. This is known as sustainability. Developing a Gameplan Social Impact Handover Plan for sustainability will increase long term social impact. Lasting social impact comes from within by working with the community to identify social needs. Building new relationships and strengthening and expanding existing ones is at the heart of social impact.

Embed sustainability early

Planning for sustainability is a process, not a one-time event. Embed sustainability from the outset. Establish parameters and assign roles and responsibilities during the Collaboration Kick-Off . Before making any decisions about the future of an initiative, ask, “What is this initiative all about?” and “Where will it be in two years’ time?” As decisions are made over which ideas and initiatives to pursue, consider the sustainability of these planned efforts and include specific actions.
