Commodore Your Yacht Club is a wonderful place to go for a great meal, drinks with friends, perhaps an elegant Sunday Brunch, always with friendly staff, a fabulous view of the water and beautiful boats, and that certain feeling of being someplace very special. Too bad we can’t pack all this goodness up and take it along as we journey around Florida on our boats…or can we? It turns out that we can, through the magic of FCYC! FCYC, the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs, was founded in 1961 to do just that. Now, MIYC Members can visit all the FCYC Yacht Clubs in Florida, and enjoy their marinas, dining, sports and other facilities just the same as their members do, with reciprocity between the Clubs. When you dine at, say, the St. Petersburg Yacht Club, you won’t need a credit card. Just sign the chit, and your MIYC Membership Card will ensure that you are billed back at our club for all charges. Ride a horse from the Equestrian Center at the Tampa Yacht Club. Get tennis lessons and play a game or two at the internationally acclaimed Tennis Center at the Field Club in Sarasota. Play croquet and soak up the history of the Championship Croquet Ground at The Florida Yacht Club in Jacksonville, (white croquet dress required, please!), established in 1875. Meet an Astronaut at the Eau Gallie Yacht Club, near Cape Canaveral (at least 4 are members). Watch the finish of a transatlantic sailing race at the Halifax River Yacht Club in Daytona Beach. Prefer getting away from it all? Enjoy first-class luxury on small oceanfront islands surrounded by pristine natural beauty (like we have here at home) at the Captiva Island Yacht Club, the Carlouel Yacht Club on Clearwater Beach, the Key Biscayne Yacht Club (where you can play a round of golf as well), the Marathon Yacht Club, or FCYC’s newest Member Club, the Oyster Bay Yacht Club on Fernandina Beach. Almost everywhere you go throughout Florida, whether you go by boat, by car, or by motorcoach, there is likely to be a magnificent and welcoming Yacht Club for you to explore and enjoy, courtesy of your MIYC Membership! (Some reciprocity restrictions may apply, check with individual clubs for details). I’m pleased to announce that your Marco Island Yacht Club will have the honor of hosting a meeting of the Florida Council of Yacht Clubs this May 13 th -15 th . Delegates, alternates, spouses and General Managers from all 37 FCYC clubs will be here with us, to marvel at the beauty of our island paradise, and to share ideas and best practices for running top-notch Yacht Clubs. MIYC Members will have the chance to meet our FCYC friends at Happy Hour on Friday, May 13 th , and again at the dinner on Saturday, May 14 th , subject to availability. Since so many delegates from the other clubs will be coming, space will be extremely limited, so watch your email for the chance to get your reservations in. FCYC is not the only way to get reciprocity with other great clubs. World travelers can enjoy amazing adventures at Yacht Clubs everywhere with a Letter of Introduction from our Club to the club you want to visit. Using one of these, Past Commodore Jeff Comeaux and wife Carol visited the world-famous Club de Monaco in Montecarlo last summer, and were given the VIP treatment. Your MIYC Membership makes you a Yachtsman, and makes you welcome in Yacht Clubs throughout Florida and worldwide. Enjoy! TomWentworth
