NBI - Head of Facilities

Main purpose of the job: The Head of Facilities will lead the Facilities strategy to meet the needs of the supported research organisations, through developing and maintaining a site masterplan; capital programme delivery; effective capital utilisation; legal compliance and ensuring performance standards are set and maintained that support the world class science in JIC, TSL and EI. The post holder will be responsible for building, managing, and servicing the physical infrastructure of the three institutes and for providing soft facilities services, balancing the quality and cost of the services, and ensuring value for money. They will lead and deliver a proactive service through effective management of the Facilities Team and Contractors, ensuring outstanding levels of service and performance. Key relationships: Key relationships will be with the Institute Directors and their teams, Institute Science/Operational representative, Heads of Support Services, Heads of Departments, and Group/Project Leaders. The post holder will directly manage the senior Facilities Team (Projects and Contracts Manager, Engineering Manager, Soft Facilities Manager). The post holder will maintain effective working relationships with the Facilities Team at BBSRC/UKRI or other funding bodies. The post holder will be line managed by an Institute Director. Main activities and responsibilities: 1. Leadership of the Facilities Team • Develop a high performance, service orientated culture engaging staff and monitoring performance against key performance indicators to ensure high quality service. • Set up systems to, and monitor, performance of the Facilities Team, with regular feedback on performance from the Institutes. • Manage the planning and control of the Institutes’ sites, facilities, and infrastructure, establish strategic direction, and ensure delivery. • Build strong relationships with the Norwich Research Partners LLP, BBSRC and other relevant campus teams. • Motivate, inspire, and enable the Facilities Team to deliver an outstanding service suited to the needs of a research organisation. • Liaise and build effective relationships with senior Institute management and other science leaders to ensure the service meets science requirements. • With the Finance Director, set financial budgets and monitor performance throughout the year. • Ensure value-for-money (VFM) from capital, minor works, and maintenance contracts through regular competitive tendering. • Ensure accurate and timely reporting on facilities activity to the senior management teams and science/operational leads, or lab managers (as agreed with each Institute).
