The Hawkesbury Hawks Junior A team split their two last games, winning one and losing the other. Over 200 people were in attendance to watch the Hawks beat the Kemptville 73s, last Friday at the Robert Hartley Sports Complex. The Hawks were able to pick up two points with this 1-0 victory. The only goal of the game came midway through the first period, by Samuel Hatto. Teammates Matt Gasuik and Lucas Yotevich assisted the goal. The lack of scoring in the other two periods was not for a lack of trying. Both goaltenders of the match, Matthew Petizian for the Hawks and Jarret Fiske for the 73’s, played an extraordinary game. Fiske blocked 36 of the 37 shots the Hawks fired at him, earning him third star of the game. Petizian, named the second star for his shutout, stopped all 30 shots that came his way. Evidently, Hatto earned the first star for scoring the only goal of the game. The Hawks were then visited the next night by the Smiths Falls Bears, who beat them 4-2. Hawkesbury initially took the lead in the beginning of the first period. Matthew Titus scored five minutes in, followed a minute later by a powerplay goal by Shane McGrath. Tate Leeson then managed

to cut the Hawks’ lead to 2-1 with his goal for the Bears at the end of the first. Smiths Falls then came out on fire during the second period, having no mercy for the Hawks. The visiting team scored three goals in the second period. Jacob Shankar scored two minutes in, quickly tying the game 2-2. The Bears then seized two powerplay opportunities to score two more goals.
Hawks player David Hill received a two-minute penalty for hooking, in which time Jacob Cuffley scored the Bears’ third goal.
