Innovation in Action: STEM AT LEVINE ACADEMY
WHY ISAS ACCREDITATION MATTERS FOR LEVINE ACADEMY
For nine years, the STEM program at Ann & Nate Levine Academy has inspired students to explore, create and innovate. Led by Dean of STEM Jackie Kirkendall and K-8 Principal Liz Lawlor , the program nurtures curiosity from Early Childhood through Middle School, helping students develop the skills and confidence to become creative problem-solvers. Early Childhood: Learning Through Discovery STEM begins with purposeful play. Guided by educator Lynne Guillot , students investigate concepts such as motion, life cycles, buoyancy, and engineering through hands-on experiences like gardening, building and experimentation. These activities foster critical thinking, early math and science skills, and a willingness to ask questions and explore new ideas. Lower School: Innovation in Action As students grow, so do their opportunities to create and discover. This year, Steven Itskovich joined Gwen Eishen on the STEM team, expanding the program’s reach. Students explore biology and sustainability in the greenhouse and Fork Farms growing lab while using the Makerspace’s 3D printers, laser cutters, and design tools to bring their ideas to life. Levine’s robotics program continues to strengthen teamwork, creativity, and technical skills. Middle School: Real-World Problem Solving Middle School STEM combines rigorous academics with hands-on
Ann & Nate Levine Academy’s accreditation by the Independent Schools Association of the Southwest (ISAS) reflects the school’s commitment to excellence in academics, leadership, operations, and school culture. application. Science teachers Megan Copulsky and Paula Helms partner with math educators like Kimberley Wilson to deliver inquiry-based learning. Students benefit from Reveal Math, ALEKS, STEMscopes, and enrichment through the Center for Initiatives in Jewish Education (CIJE), creating a strong foundation in STEM disciplines. Preparing Innovators for the Future Seventh-grade cornerstone projects, eighth-grade capstones, robotics competitions, and electives such as coding, CAD, podcasting, and eSports encourage students to think creatively and solve complex challenges. From bubbles and compost bins to robotics and laser cutters, STEM at Levine empowers students to turn curiosity into innovation and possibility.
