Legionella Removal Capability The electroabsorbtive properties of Force Field TM Filters allow it to remove a variety of contaminants from water including biological contaminants like Legionella pneumophila. Legionella pneumophila is a pathogenic bacterium commonly present in many residential, commercial and industrial systems such as cooling towers and hot water systems. It is transmitted as an aerosol and when aspirated by people having compromised immune systems can cause Legionnaires’ disease, a respiratory infection that causes pneumonia. Transmission of the Legionella pneumophila bacterium can be of great concern in hospitals and nursing homes where patients are more susceptible to infections. Applications Force Field TM Filters can be used as Point of Entry (POE) filters to reduce the amount of Legionella pneumophila entering a building. Point of Use (POU) filters can be designed and certified for use on showers or other water outlets. Such filters would be of particular interest in locations with immunocompromised people such as hospitals and nursing homes. Legionella outbreaks are also associated with cooling towers, car washes, and public fountains. Force Field TM Filters that remove Legionella pneumophila can be used in conjunction with other sanitization treatments to inhibit growth of the bacterium in all such water systems.

Force Field TM Filters Remove Lead in Water to Safe Levels
Lead is a toxic metal that is harmful to human health; there is NO safe level of Lead exposure. The primary route for lead poisoning in drinking water is not contamination of water by leaded fuels, old batteries or some hazardous waste site. The primary route is the distribution system used to carry water to your home, and even the plumbing within your home or building. This problem has become nearly epidemic in proportion due to the crumbling of our nation’s infrastructure. Prior to 2014, the legal definition for “lead free” was plumbing fixtures with a lead content of less than 8 %. In 2014, the term was redefined to include only fixtures with a lead content of 0.25% and newly installed fixtures must use the “lead free” materials–but this did not apply to fixtures currently in use! Therefore, if your building was constructed even as recently as 2014, your pipes could contain up to 32 times the allowable lead levels. Even worse, much of the municipal piping that is getting the water to your building is decades old and these pipes, in many cases, are comprised or have components that are largely comprised of lead. Today the issue is so widespread that at least 4 million households with children living in them are being exposed to high levels of lead. There are approximately half a million U.S. children ages 1-5 with blood lead levels above 5 micrograms per deciliter (g/dL), the reference level at which CDC recommends public health actions be initiated. Heavy metals in drinking water are a serious concern due to the adverse health effects that are associated with them. In order to determine if Triple Clear’s patented Force Field TM Filter media could address this issue, a panel of heavy metals was chosen for testing and analysis by independent third party labs. Based on customer requests and market trends for claims in drinking water filtration, it was decided that testing would be conducted for arsenic, barium, cadmium, chromium VI, copper, iron, lead, selenium and silver. The metals spike was purchased from CPI International and analysis of filtrate was provided by TestAmerica in Tampa, FL. Filtering of the spike through the media was carried out by BCS Laboratories in Gainesville, FL. The results of this testing show that both the Force Field TM Filter with silver, and the Force Field TM Filter with silver and carbon infused significantly reduced chromium VI, Copper, Iron, Lead and Selenium in water.
