MAYOR SLY JAMES Kansas City, Missouri’s Mayor

Q: What do you like about Winter? A: There’s not much about Winter I enjoy – cold weather is not my thing. Except when it comes to football. If the Chiefs make it to the Super Bowl, this Winter will be my favorite season ever. Q: What is your favorite Winter activity to do in Kansas City? A: I really enjoy the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Lighting Ceremony in Crown Center Square. The ceremony, which takes place the day after Thanksgiving, is a celebration of the Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund and features musical performances, fireworks, and a citizen, who represents the best of Kansas City. The Mayor’s Christmas Tree Fund aids struggling families in Kansas City, and helps them enjoy the holiday season thanks to the generosity of foundations, corporations and individual donors. The fund provides senior citizens, persons with disabilities and children in need with gift cards, Christmas gifts, and holiday parties hosted by the Kansas City Parks and Recreation Department. Q: What is your favorite holiday memory or tradition, and why? A: Every Christmas, I’m in charge of our family’s big holiday dinner – I’ve got the chef ’s jacket and everything. I go all out and make lobster macaroni and cheese, mixed greens, and a black forest beef tenderloin. And no, I’m not sharing my secret recipes!
