LARA MORITZ KMBC Channel 9 News Anchor Q: What do you like about Winter? A: I love Winter because my birthday is December 7th! As a child, I used to never understand why I had to bring the birthday treats to class when it was MY birthday. I brought gingerbread cookies with red sprinkles on them from our small-town grocery. And my daughter Kathryn was born on December 22nd—a winter baby!! I also love snow. Falling snow is so peaceful and quiet. Growing up in Wisconsin we played in the snow all the time—until we were nearly frozen. I love to watch my two dogs run around when it snows—they remind me to be playful. Q: What is your favorite Winter activity to do in Kansas City? A: One of my favorite Winter-time activities

After opening gifts, we get into our pajamas and watch a movie. I lost the privilege of selecting a movie after I chose “Manchester by the Sea” a couple of years ago. It’s cozy and relaxing and warm! I also love to decorate my house for Christmas. I find I cook more in the Winter too. Walking into a house that smells like comfort food is inviting and relaxing. Q: What is your favorite holiday memory or tradition, and why? A: Christmas Eve is my favorite holiday! My husband—Todd and two children—Tanner and Kathryn started a tradition, years and years ago, by going to early church, having a long dinner of fondue, opening presents and watching a movie. Inevitably, Kathryn begs and begs all day long to open ‘just one present.’ She’ll be 19 years old this year and I know she will still bug us all day long to open ‘just one present.’ The answer is always ‘no, you have to wait until after fondue.’
