Resource Label Group, a full-service provider of pres- sure sensitive labels, shrink sleeve and RFID/NFC tech- nology for the packaging industry, has acquired Dallas, Texas-based McDowell Label, enhancing its presence in the Southwest United States. 16th Addition Resource Label is a portfolio company of First Atlan- tic Capital, a New York-based private investment firm, and TPG Growth, the middle market and growth equi- ty investment platform of TPG. McDowell Label rep- resents Resource Label’s 16th addition to a continually growing portfolio of packaging companies and its sec- ond location in Texas. Started in 1981 by Dave and Elaine McDowell, Mc- Dowell Label has secured more than 500 national and international awards for their work in the packaging industry. McDowell Label’s focus will continue to be on creating innovative packaging solutions for top sell- ing consumer brands in premium beverage, cosmetics and personal care, nutraceutical, food, pet care and au- tomotive industries, among others. Paperboard Packaging Alliance Presents Awards The Paperboard Packaging Alliance,Washington, has announced winners of its 2020 Student Design Chal- lenge, a competition designed to foster awareness and appreciation of paperboard packaging with university educators and the next generation of packaging de- sign decision-makers. Educators Toolkit Students were asked to design an innovative pack- aging toolkit for educators to use as part of the Trees into Cartons, Cartons into Trees (TICCIT) program, which engages third through fifth graders in an envi- ronmental and educational activity, highlighting the re- newability and sustainability of paper and paperboard packaging.The Student Design Challenge is an annual competition for university students in leading packag- ing design programs to show off their talent, design skills and innovative approaches to meet customer needs and marketing scenarios. The following student teams won this year’s chal- lenge: Ryerson University received first place; Roch- ester Institute of Technology received second place; Fashion Institute of Technology received third place; and a second team from the Rochester Institute of Technology received an honorable mention.
