FPA Launches Emerging Leadership Council

The Flexible Packaging Association (FPA), an advo- cate for the growing U.S. flexible packaging industry, has formed and launched the Emerging Leadership Council (ELC).The new group is dedicated to estab- lishing a network of future leaders to drive issues and opportunities which will have a long-term im- pact on the advancement of the U.S. flexible pack- aging industry. The ELC’s mission will be accomplished by meeting several strategic goals: • Education, educating youth on the purpose and benefits of flexible packaging; • Recruitment, attracting, and retaining talent within the industry; • Leadership development, first-hand experience driving critical objectives set forth by the FPA; and • Advocacy, collaborative promotion of innovative and sustainable solutions to key external stakeholders. One of the ELC’s first projects was to develop a series of videos that discuss how the industry responded to the COVID-19 pandemic; sustainability in packaging; and the importance of workforce development. Flexible packaging is produced from paper, plastic, film, aluminum foil, or any combination of those materials, and includes bags, pouches, labels, liners, wraps, rollstock, and oth- er flexible products. Syntegon, Koehler Form Strategic Alliance Packaging machine manufacturer Syntegon and pa- per manufacturer Koehler have entered into a strate- gic partnership to address the circular economy. The partners have been collaborating since 2018. Technologists and engineers from the Koehler Paper Group meet regularly at Syntegon’s test center for ver- tical packaging technology. The products of the newly founded Koehler Flexible Packaging Paper Division will initially run on pilot ma- chines there.
