P roduct Identification Co., Inc. (PIC), Garfield, New Jersey, has made a name for itself since the early 1960s as a commercial printer. The company is now expanding its market reach by ex- panding into flexographic printing, adding it to its in-house man-

ufacturing capabilities. The company has added two high- speed flexo machines, each with the capability of printing in seven colors. The company was originally established as K & N Name- plate, Inc. in 1964, with a fo- cus primarily on producing etched aluminum nameplates for OEMs and military sub- contractors. Canadian Packaging Sector Explored In Fact Sheet The Canadian Paper and Paper-based Packaging in- dustry is among the most sustainable industries in the world, but there are still significant gaps between pub- lic perceptions and actual fact when it comes to related environmental topics such as forestry, greenhouse gas emissions and recycling, according to a new fact sheet released by Two Sides.A recent Two Sides survey found that Canadian consumers rank pulp and paper products as a leading cause of deforestation, which they are not. Fact Sheet The Two Sides’ fact sheet on the sustainability of the Canadian Paper and Paper-based Packaging indus- try, offers information from third-party sources that demonstrate information, such as: • Deforestation is defined as the conversion of for- est to other land uses whether human-induced or not. The definition specifically excludes areas where trees have been removed as a result of harvesting or logging and where the forest is expected to regenerate natu- rally or with the aid of silvicultural [sustainable forest management] measures. — UN Food and Agriculture Organization, 2020 • At the end of 2019, Canada had over 168 million hectares of independently certified forest land (to ei- ther CSA, SFI or FSC). Nearly half of Canada’s forests are certified and 37 percent of all certified forests worldwide are in Canada, the largest area of any coun- try.— Natural Resources Canada, 2020 The forest sector’s ability to generate its own elec- tricity, largely from bioenergy, has reduced its reliance on fossil fuels. Between 2007 and 2017, the forest sec- tor reduced energy use by 24 percent and total fossil GHG emissions (direct emissions plus indirect emis- sions from purchased electricity) by 40 percent. — Natural Resources Canada, 2020 • Canada recycles almost 70 percent of its paper and cardboard, making it among the top paper recycling countries in the world.— Forest Products Association of Canada, 2020 Mondi Wins Eight WorldStar Packaging Awards Mondi received eight awards in three categories at this year’s WorldStar Packaging awards. In this annu- al competition of the World Packaging Organisation, judges from 55 countries recognized achievements in packaging innovation and technologies worldwide, with a focus on sustainability, product protection and end-user convenience.
