Meet Our New Lifestyle Coordinator – Welcome, Kellie! We are delighted to welcome Kellie into her new role as Lifestyle Coordinator at Holmwood Aged Care. After almost a year as a valued member of our care team, Kellie is excited to bring her enthusiasm, creativity and genuine passion for working with older people into this new position. We sat down with Kellie to learn more about her journey and what she’s looking forward to. Tell us a little about yourself.
“I’m a solo mum to three boys, so life is always busy with sports, driving lessons and everything that comes with mum life! Before having children, I managed a property management department in Mooroolbark. After taking time off to raise my family, I decided on a career change and couldn’t think of a better place to work than aged care. Along the way I’ve also worked as a Disability Support Worker and hold qualifications as a Patient Transport Officer. I’ve now been part of the Holmwood care team for almost a year, and it’s been a wonderful experience.” Why did you choose a career in aged care? “After my second son was born, I knew I wanted a change from real estate and began working as a Personal Care Assistant over 12 years ago. Around that time, my father was in his 80s, and I helped my mum care for him. Seeing the support he received during his respite stays inspired me to pursue a career in aged care. It felt like the right path for me.” What does aged care mean to you? “To me, aged care means providing the very best care possible. My motto has always been to treat every resident the way I would want my own parents to be treated. Our residents have lived extraordinary lives. They have incredible stories, experiences and wisdom that younger generations can only imagine. They deserve to be treated with dignity, respect and exceptional care. That’s exactly what Holmwood strives to provide, and I’m proud to be part of such a caring team.” What do you enjoy most about working at Holmwood? “It’s hard to choose! The staff are amazing—everyone is so supportive and genuinely cares about one another. And, of course, the residents are equally special. Every person has a unique story to tell and such a positive outlook on life. I learn something new from them every day.” What is one of your most memorable moments in aged care? “I don’t know if I could pick just one, but knowing I’ve made a resident’s day a little brighter by sitting and having a chat always sends me home smiling. Sometimes it’s simply receiving a hug or sharing a smile. Those little moments mean everything.” What are you most looking forward to in your new role? “I’m excited to connect with residents in new ways, discover their skills, talents and interests, and work alongside them to create fun, engaging programs that everyone can enjoy. I can’t wait to get started.” What advice would you give someone considering a career in aged care? “Don’t hesitate. Aged care is one of the most rewarding careers you can have. The relationships you build and the difference you make in someone’s life are truly priceless.” We are thrilled to see Kellie step into the role of Lifestyle Coordinator and know she will bring warmth, creativity and compassion to every day at Holmwood.
