HOW ARE PUPILS ASSESSED? The assessment will consist of: • Two contrasting pieces on the first instrument (Grade 5 would be expected for Year 9 entry, although a candidate below this standard who shows promise may be considered) • One prepared piece on the second (and third, if any) instrument* • A sight-reading test • Aural tests • An interview with the Director of Music and/or other assessors, during which candidates will be expected to discuss their musical studies and interests, including their involvement in musical groups and activities *Candidates are welcome to bring their own accompanist to the examination or supply the Director of Music with copies of the music in advance.
