When Executive Director 4 Monita Smith’s Melaleuca check hits her account tomorrow, she’s paying down the rest of her student loans in their entirety. “It’s definitely a blessing and I don’t take anything for granted,” she says. Monita credits her team and small-but-consistent daily activities with getting her to this point in her business. “Before you look up, all of those little things that you’re doing are going to pay off,” she says. “Just plant those seeds and keep watering them.” Grit, determination, patience, and persistence—these four principles are integral to Monita’s success in both her personal and work life. As a mom to four kids and a full-time caregiver to her father-in-law, she admits that every day isn’t “rainbows and unicorns.” “Sometimes we have to get in the trenches and fight for what we care about,” Monita says. “A lot of us have been forced into homeschooling recently, and I’m having to stay even more focused throughout the day.”
