CRIB SAFETY

Please refer to OPS SOP 800-07. Examine cribs or play yards before setting up in guest rooms. • Ensure that crib or play yard has not been recalled. Up to date recall lists are available online by brand. • Slats can be no more than 2-3/8 inches apart. • Do not use the crib if it is missing, loose, cracked, or splintered slats. • Do not use the crib if there are any sharp or jagged edges. • Mattress must fit tightly into crib, i.e. no more than two fingers fit between the edge of the mattress and the crib side. • Mattress support must be securely attached to the crib headboard and footboard. • Tighten loose screws or bolts or replace missing screws or bolts. If not possible, do not use. • Corner posts must be 1/16 inch high or less. • No cutouts are allowed in the crib headboard or footboard. • Drop-side latches must be tight and difficult for a child to release. • Mattress must be covered with a well-fitted crib sheet, no standard bed sheets! • No pillows, comforters, stuffed animals or other soft items in the crib. For mesh designs:

• Mesh is less than ¼ inch in size; • No tears, holes, or loose threads; • Mesh is securely attached to the top rail and floorplate;

• Top rail cover has no tears or holes; • No missing, loose, or exposed staples; • Mattress or floor pad is covered with a sheet or pad provided by manufacturer (no substitutions); and • No pillows, comforters, stuffed animals, or other soft items in the crib or play yard.
