FLOOD In addition to the previously provided guidelines for adverse weather conditions, the following actions are recommended for flood-specific safety instructions. PREPARATION 1. Maintain constant monitoring via radio or television for ongoing developments and information or additional alerts. 2. Secure your property and outdoor furniture. 3. Move essential items to an upper floor. 4. Turn off electricity and gas at the potential or affected area(s). 5. Disconnect electrical appliances. DO NOT TOUCH ELECTRICAL EQUIPMENT IF YOU ARE WET OR STANDING IN WATER. 6. Consolidate a list of all Mechanical & Engineering rooms or electrical risers with a map and location attached to this plan. EVACUATION If a decision is made that evacuation is the best course of action, refer to EVACUATION / LOCKDOWN / CLOSURE procedures . DURING THE FLOOD 1. Continue monitoring of flood conditions. 2. Discuss closure of affected areas and contingency plans. 3. Close doors and windows and deploy sandbags if deemed appropriate. 4. Review possibility of removing water from affected area(s) with use of mobile pumps. 5. Maintain awareness of the location of guests and Associates and ensure they are in the safest areas of the hotel. POST FLOOD 1. If your electricity supply is not already switched off at the mains, get a qualified person to do this. DO NOT TOUCH SOURCES OF ELECTRICITY WHEN STANDING IN FLOOD WATER. 2. Avoid floodwaters completely if possible. Water may be contaminated by oil, gasoline, or raw sewage or electrically charged from underground or downed power lines. 3. Stay away from downed power lines. Report them to the Power Company and the MOD. 4. Stay out of any building if it is surrounded by floodwaters.
