Safety & Risk Control Resources

GUEST SAFETY

• Guests should be informed of the impending weather event, either by public announcement or by being contacted in their rooms. Make sure you have a list of rooms with disabled guests since they may require direct contact and/or special assistance. • Depending on the configuration of the hotel, the safest place for guests is usually to remain in their rooms, in the bathroom with the door closed. Instruct guests to: 1. Close draperies to minimize glass fragments if the windows are broken. 2. Stay away from the windows. 3. Close doors. 4. If guests need to go outside for any reason, make sure they are accompanied by a second person. In low-rise constructions or properties which have more than one building, securely anchored heavy rope can be strung between buildings in uncovered areas to serve as a guide. • Consideration may be given to securing the services of an elevator technician for the duration of the emergency, especially in larger properties. • Our primary responsibility in the event of Hurricane/Cyclone, Tornado, or Flood weather emergency is to protect the lives of guests and Associates, and then to protect the property. EVACUATION If a decision is made that evacuation is the best course of action, refer to EVACUATION / LOCKDOWN / CLOSURE procedures.
