for Family This Summer
This month marks the true start of summer, and it’s going to be a beautiful — and hot — season here in town. The kids are on break, and that means we’ll be busy here at Shullman Orthodontics until school starts again in a few months. It also means that, just like many of you, I have my own kids at home this summer. That can be bittersweet, as I love having them around, but it seems like I never get to spend as much time with them as I’d like. Like I said, summer is a busy time for me. And although school is out, it’s a busy time for them as well, with a wide variety of camps broadening their horizons or building on long-standing interests. All year, the kids look forward to circus, art, gymnastics, and, of course, dance camps. These experiences are sort of like school, but with only the fun parts.
Again, though, this doesn’t make it any easier to spend time with my kids. A while back, someone recommended that I take a one-on-one trip with each child at least once a year, and we try to do just that with our daughters. It doesn’t have to be much — an overnight baseball game or a camping trip are good examples — but you have to build individual relationships with each of your kids. My oldest is 12 years old, and I know that her time in the house with us will end almost as fast as this summer does. It’s true that we’ll be buying school supplies soon; but it’s also true that in a few short years, she’ll be driving, and then she’ll be off on her own. That’s why it’s so important for me to spend time with her and her sisters now. We’re also looking forward to time away as a whole family to regroup and recharge. That’s why we’re all taking a cruise next month. I’ll be sure to write about that in a future edition of the
newsletter. And my wife and I are headed out of town for a few days this summer, as well. We’re going to see some friends, do a little hiking, and explore some new sights. Again, it’s not a big trip, but this time of year, we’ll take what we can get! Other than that, you can expect to find me and my staff in the practice. We’ll see patients all day long, in every available chair, until things slow down a little this fall. If you’d like to get your child in, or get in yourself, it’s best to call soon and schedule it out. Have a great June, – Dr. Howard Shullman P.S. While you’re looking at your schedule, pick a day this summer to spend with each of your children individually. I promise, it’s absolutely worth your time. www.ShullmanOrtho.com • 561.868.5050 • 1
