Abstract: This study explores the impact of the Chinese rise and the American decline on the international system, including in the fields of political relations, economic globalisation and global peace. Among the possible scenarios for the future of relations are pacification, which is not likely; the continuation of the current level of escalation, which is likely to lead to a cold war and will have profound effects on the international system; and war, which is possible.
