North American Valve Proving Device

Sheet 1597-5

SPECIFICATIONS

Location The Valve Proving Device can be mounted directly to the Double Shutoff Valve ports 1 and 2. • Label all wires prior to disconnection when servicing Valve Proving Device. Wiring errors can cause improper and dangerous operation. • Verify proper operation after servicing. • Never perform work if gas pressure or power is applied, or in the presence of an open flame. • Protect surfaces. Make sure that seals and O-rings are clean and in good condition. • Once installed, perform a complete checkout including a gas leak test.

The Valve Proving Device checks that both safety shutoff valves in a Compact Fuel Train are fully closed before a system start-up and after shutdown when wired and interlocked with a suitable flame monitoring relay as shown in the wiring diagrams on page 2. The Valve Proving Device will halt the start-up sequence to a burner if it detects an open safety shutoff valve, thus preventing ignition under dangerous conditions.

Mounting holes

Mounting • The gas supply must be shut off and the Double Shutoff Valves must be de-energized before mounting the Valve Proving Device. • Disconnect all power to the valves and the valve proving system before beginning to prevent electrical shock and equipment damage. Recommended Mounting Procedure • Use the M4  15 mm self tapping socket head screws supplied with the Valve Proving Device to cut the threads in the four predrilled holes in the side of the Double Shutoff Valve body at the desired mounting position. • Use a 3 mm hex key wrench to turn the screws. After cutting the threads remove the M4  15 mm socket head screws. • Make sure the 10.5  2.25 mm O-rings are fitted into the grooves on the back of the Valve Proving Device.

INSTALLATION

• Read these instructions carefully. • Failure to follow them and/or improper installation may cause explosion, property damage, and injuries. • Installation must be done with the supervision of a licensed burner technician. • The system must meet all applicable national and local code re- quirements. • Check the ratings given in the specifications and on the Valve Prov- ing Device to make sure that it is suitable for your application.
