eat. Then one day this kind woman thought of a n o th e r' way of showing kindness to Elisha. She said to her husband, “I can see that this man Elisha is a true man of God. Let us build an other little room onto our house, and put in it a bed, a table, a chair, and a candlestick; and whenever he comes to this town he shall stay with us in our home.” So her husband made the room just as his wife had said.- Then every time Elisha came to this place he came and stayed with this kind woman and her husband, and O how he did enjoy his room, all fixed so comfort able for him. Often he would be tired find dusty after a long ride through the country, and here he could wash, and lie down and rest, or stay all night. You see this woman loved God and she wanted to help and show kindness to others who loved God, and especially to the preacher who was giving his whole time to go about and tell people about God." One day Elisha came with another man who helped Elisha, and he asked his friend to call this woman who had been so kind to him. Then Elisha told her how kind she had al ways been, and wanted to know whal he could do for her, but she said she was satisfied with the things she had, and went away. Then when she was gone, Elisha asked his friend to think of something they could do for her. His friend told Elisha there were no children in this lovely home, and he knew th a t people who love God, love children. Then they- called the woman back and told her such good news. Then Elisha, the man of God, told this good woman, th a t the Lord was going to give her a son. Of course Elisha had asked God to give this woman a son, and Elisha’s words came true and God sent a little Son into this lovely home. O how happy this woman and her hus band were to have a dear little baby boy in the home. Tell how Elisha after ward rewarded this woman for her
your family. Sometimes these kind people send in nice things for us to eat when we are sick, and sometimes they come and help take care of sick people. We learned last week how even a child could help. Helen, can you tell us about the little sister who watched over her baby brother? We have been hearing such lovely stories about the four brave boys, the little girl and how she helped her mother, and now we are going to hear about a woman who was kind and what she did. Prayer. Lesson Story.—Boys and girls, you all know what a, preacher or minister is, do you not? Our story today is about a preacher or prophet of God who travelled about the country and preached to the people from God’s word. This preacher’s name was Elisha and he was a true man and told the people just what God said. There- were no automobiles or street cars, or steam cars in the days when. Elisha lived, but he travelled about on a mule or burro, and of course he could not go very fast, and it would take him a long time to make his trips from one place to an other. In one of the towns where Elisha visited lived a fine Christian woman and her husband, who had often seen the prophet of God as he passed by. One day she went out and invited him to come in and eat dinner with them. At first Elisha did not think he ought to gb, but she kept asking him to come, and finally he accepted her kind invitation and went in and dined with her and her husband. They had such a good time eating together, for this woman and her husband loved God and of course it was a great joy to them to have a wonderful preacher like Elisha sit at their table and eat and tell them the wonderful things out of God’s word. This woman was so kind to Elisha, that afterward every time he passed her house, he came in and ate with them; it was a help to Elisha, too, to have this place to stop, rest and
