Fenestration Digital July 2026

Welcome to the July edition of Fenestration Digital. As we pass the halfway point of 2026, one thing has become increasingly clear: our industry continues to evolve at remarkable speed. Whether it’s investment in manufacturing, advances in product performance, changing regulatory frameworks, or the ongoing drive towards sustainability, businesses across the fenestration sector are demonstrating resilience, innovation and confidence in the future. This month’s edition highlights several of the key themes currently shaping our industry. We look at significant investment within the aluminium sector, with manufacturers expanding facilities, increasing capacity and strengthening their ability to serve a growing national customer base. These developments reflect a market that continues to see strong demand for high-performance aluminium solutions and a willingness from businesses to invest in long-term growth. Building standards and compliance also remain firmly in the spotlight. As the industry prepares for new regulatory requirements and the ongoing transition towards net zero construction, there is an increasing focus on education, training and practical guidance. Features in this edition explore how organisations are helping businesses navigate these changes while maintaining commercial viability, safety and performance. Security is another recurring theme throughout this month’s magazine. From

PAS 24 compliance and enhanced hardware solutions to new product developments that combine aesthetics with robust protection, manufacturers continue to raise the bar. As regulations tighten and customer expectations increase, the ability to deliver proven security credentials alongside ease of installation and product reliability has never been more important. We also celebrate innovation in colour and design, recognising the companies helping fabricators and installers offer greater choice, improved finishes and enhanced product differentiation. As homeowners continue to place greater emphasis on personalisation and kerb appeal, colour remains a powerful driver of market growth. Ultimately, what stands out across this issue is the industry’s determination to move forward. Whether through investment, product development, sustainability initiatives or compliance support, businesses are actively shaping the future of fenestration rather than simply reacting to change. Thank you, as always, to our contributors, advertisers and readers for your continued support. We hope you enjoy this month’s edition and find valuable insight, inspiration and information throughout its pages. Enjoy the issue. The Fenestration Digital Team

MADE FOR TRADE ANNOUNCES MAJOR INVESTMENT

New 100,496 sq ft Northampton production, distribution and showroom facility. Made for Trade has announced a major expansion of its UK operations with the addition of Dimensions House, a 110,496 sq ft facility in Northampton that will become a key production, distribution and showroom site for the business. The site investment is complemented by another significant investment in Schirmer machinery to improve the quality of already industry leading production. The new premises will support Made for Trade’s continued growth by increasing production capacity, improving distribution efficiency and strengthening

Midlands Showroom The facility will also include a dedicated showroom, which will be used to onboard new accounts and introduce customers to the company’s expanding product range. The showroom will also be available for Made for Trade customers to use when presenting Korniche products to their own end users, giving trade partners a professional environment in which to demonstrate the quality,

design and performance of the range. Expanded Aluminium Range

Dimensions House will play a central role in Made for Trade’s future product strategy. The site is planned to become the production facility for the upcoming Korniche Window, an all-aluminium product designed to redefine the UK aluminium window sector through innovation, installation simplicity, strong thermal performance, competitive pricing, high stock availability and short lead times. The Korniche Window will further expand the Made for Trade product range and support the company’s ambition to offer trade customers a one-supplier solution across aluminium glazing products. By broadening the range, Made for Trade aims to help customers simplify purchasing, improve consistency and access more of the products they need from a single trusted supplier. The investment follows a series of recent additions to the Korniche range. The company’s Internal Glass

strategically important location for the business. With a significant proportion of Made for Trade’s customer base located outside its North East manufacturing base, the Northampton site will allow the company to operate a more efficient national distribution model, with larger trunking runs into the hub and smaller, more frequent delivery routes from the site. This hub-and-spoke approach will improve delivery efficiency, reduce pressure on existing operations and support a faster, more responsive service for trade customers.

Partition system is now available in custom colours at highly competitive prices. A new entry door based around the award winning Korniche bi-folding door system will be launching in August. Aluminium finishing trims are now available as perfect colour matches to ensure the best finish for installations. Textured Black is also now available from stock for sliders and bi-folding doors, offering customers a premium finish with short lead times and without premium pricing. Continued Product Development Once the fit-out is complete, Made for Trade’s Flat Glass and Flatlite production lines will also move to the Northampton facility, freeing up much-needed space across the company’s North East sites for further product launches as the business continues to invest in its products and manufacturing capability – Watch this Space. Chris Wann, Director at Made for Trade, said: “Dimensions House is a major step forward for Made for Trade. It gives us the space, location and operational flexibility we need to improve capacity and service levels for our customers, while also supporting the next stage of growth for the Korniche product range. “Our customer base is national, and this site helps us serve that market more efficiently. By using Northampton as a distribution hub, we can improve how we move products around the country and support customers with more frequent, responsive delivery routes. “The upcoming Korniche Window is another key part of our strategy. It expands our range and takes us closer to a one-supplier model, giving customers access to more of the aluminium glazing products they need from one manufacturer, backed by strong stockholding, short lead times and the service levels

create demand that directly supports its trade customers. Mike Robinson , Head of Sales at Made for Trade, said: “The promotion of the Korniche brand is delivering real value for our customers. We are building a premium brand that homeowners recognise and ask for, but we are doing it at a price point that allows our trade customers to remain competitive and win work. “That balance is very important to us. Korniche is not just about product innovation; it is about giving customers a stronger brand, better sales tools and a more compelling offer for their own end users.” Customers can experience the latest Korniche innovations first-hand at the remaining 2026 Homebuilding & Renovating Shows Made for Trade will be exhibiting at: • London eXcel, 18–20 September 2026 • Harrogate Convention Centre, 30 October–1 November 2026 Full event details are available via the Made for Trade website and across Made for Trade’s social media channels.

The expansion also reflects the continued growth of the Korniche brand, which has become increasingly recognised by homeowners as a premium aluminium glazing name. Through sustained brand promotion, consumer marketing and national exhibition activity, Made for Trade is helping to

SHEERLINE’S INLINE PATIO GLIDES THROUGH ENHANCED SECURITY TESTING

SheerGlide®, the new inline patio from Sheerline, is now available with an enhanced security upgrade. The patio has achieved PAS 24 accreditation, which is offered as standard on all Sheerline products, however, homeowners can now request a Secured by Design (SBD) upgrade. The rigorous testing process saw the inline patio subjected to physical security testing, a manual attack to check for weak spots, and mechanical load testing. The aim is to assess the product as a whole while also focusing on specific component parts. Clever in-built innovations ensure SheerGlide® is secure. This includes TwinLock, which is the first single component interlock, combining both security and thermal efficiency. It’s strong and fully thermally broken, and at 38mm, it maintains the slim aesthetic homeowners expect. Additionally, it’s non-bonded to make it easier to manufacture, transport, and install. Other security features including the modular ‘quad’ hooklock provided by Ingenious Locks & Hardware. This true PAS 24 lock delivers exceptional levels of reliable security and operation. Security is a key feature of all Sheerline products, and the new inline patio is no different. Given the poor reputation inline sliders have had in terms of both security and thermal performance, it was key the in-house R&D team overcame these issues. This doesn’t just reflect homeowner demand or the fact that standards have increased across the industry. It reflects Sheerline’s approach and commitment to having a 100% fully matched range in terms of refined aesthetics, high-performance U-values, and enhanced security, across its windows, doors, and roof-related products. Ben Hartshorn, Sheerline’s Technical and Design Director, said: “When people see SheerGlide®, they

see a stylish sliding patio door. But what they don’t see is the months of development and refinement that went into it. Being able to offer enhanced security as standard alongside an optional upgrade is a testament to our commitment to security.” “We’re really proud of what we’ve achieved and we’re already working on the next stage of development – watch this space for updates,” he added. Sheerline hasn’t just renewed its commitment to security and continuous development, but also the goal of making life easier for fabricators and installers. This is why SheerGlide® is available in bar length or as a time-saving kit requiring just three decisions. For more information on SheerGlide® contact the team directly on 01332 978 000 or email info@ sheerline.com.

LSFA LAUNCHES NEW GUIDE: A COST- EFFECTIVE ROUTE TO NET ZERO

Ben Towe, Chair of the Light Steel Frame Association (LSFA), said: “Our aim is to equip construction professionals with the knowledge and confidence to specify light steel frame systems as a credible net zero solution, demonstrating that high-performance, future-ready buildings can be delivered without a significant cost premium. Early collaboration with the right expertise can transform project outcomes, unlocking a more sustainable, safe and cost-effective pathway to net zero.” Delivering Sustainability Without Compromising Safety The guide also reinforces that achieving net zero must never come at the expense of building safety. As regulations continue to evolve, non-combustible structural solutions are becoming increasingly important. Light steel frame offers excellent fire performance, dimensional stability and durability, providing confidence for developers, insurers, regulators and building occupants alike. Ben Towe added: “The challenge facing the construction industry is significant. We must reduce embodied carbon, improve operational performance, extend building lifespans and embrace circular construction principles while continuing to deliver safe, high- quality buildings that remain commercially viable. For too long, the net zero conversation has focused almost exclusively on operational energy. While this remains vital, we now recognise that whole-life carbon must sit at the heart of every design decision. By considering structural solutions at the earliest stages of a project, we can unlock significant carbon, programme and cost efficiencies while future- proofing buildings for generations to come. This is where light steel frame comes into its own.” The Cost-Effective Route to Net Zero guide is available as a free, open-source resource and can be downloaded from the LSFA document library at www.lsf-association.co.uk/document-library.

As the UK Net Zero Carbon Buildings Standard enters its early adoption phase and the Future Homes Standard moves closer to implementation, the construction industry faces increasing pressure to deliver measurable carbon reductions without compromising cost, safety or performance. To help designers, developers and specifiers across both the public and private sectors navigate this transition, the Light Steel Frame Association (LSFA) has launched its new guidance document – the Cost-Effective Route to Net Zero. The guide explores how light steel frame construction can support the industry’s journey to net zero through whole-life carbon reduction, circular construction principles and advances in low-carbon steel production. It provides practical guidance for project teams looking to deliver high-performance, future-ready buildings while maintaining commercial viability. From Production to Deconstruction The publication highlights the importance of considering carbon emissions across the entire lifecycle of a building – from material extraction and manufacture through construction, occupation, adaptation and eventual deconstruction. Light steel frame is uniquely positioned to support this approach. As one of the world’s most recyclable construction materials, steel can be reused or recycled indefinitely without any loss of structural performance. Today’s light steel frame systems already contain between 60% and 90% recycled steel, while the steel industry continues to accelerate its transition towards low-carbon production through Electric Arc Furnace (EAF) technology powered by renewable energy. The new Electric Arc Furnace at Port Talbot is expected to reduce on-site CO₂ emissions by up to 90%, marking a significant milestone in the UK’s transition to green steel – with production anticipated to commence around 2027.

DELIVERING PAS 24 COMPLIANCE WITH UAP HARDWARE: TS008 LETTERPLATES, FULLEX LOCKS AND BEYOND

In today’s construction landscape, compliance with PAS 24 is no longer optional; it is essential. Developed as a benchmark for enhanced security performance, PAS 24 provides a rigorous testing method to ensure that doorsets can withstand opportunistic and forced-entry attempts commonly encountered in the UK. However, one of the most important, and often misunderstood, aspects of PAS 24 is that it tests the entire doorset as a complete system, not just individual components. This means that every element, from the locking mechanism to the letterplate, plays a critical role in achieving compliance. UAP’s integrated approach to hardware specification addresses this challenge, ensuring that all components work together seamlessly to meet and exceed PAS 24 requirements.

Understanding PAS 24 PAS 24 has been developed to assess how doors and windows resist attack methods typically used by opportunistic intruders. These attacks are often low- skill but highly effective if weak points exist within the doorset. Unlike component-level standards, PAS 24 evaluates the combined performance of hardware, glazing, locks, and accessories. A failure in any one component, no matter how small, can result in the entire doorset failing the test. This approach makes hardware selection critical. Manufacturers and specifiers must ensure that every piece of hardware is not only individually robust but also compatible within a tested configuration. Adam Dixon, Senior Technical Manager, added, “PAS 24 assesses the performance of the entire doorset under simulated attack conditions, so every component must function as part of a cohesive system. Multipoint locks, cylinders and letterplates all need to maintain structural integrity and resist manipulation without creating weak points. Our approach is to engineer hardware that

works together to deliver consistent, repeatable performance in PAS 24 testing.” The Role of Multipoint Locks in PAS 24 Testing At the core of any secure doorset is the locking system. Fullex’s multipoint locks are engineered to deliver exceptional performance across multiple attack points. Multipoint locks distribute the locking force across several positions along the door frame, significantly increasing resistance against forced entry. Features such as opposing hooks, anti-lift bolts, and reinforced keeps provide enhanced security, helping doorsets withstand the physical attack elements of PAS 24 testing. Crucially, these locks are designed for both durability and security. PAS 24 testing includes repeated mechanical operations and attack simulations, meaning locks must maintain performance throughout these tests. Fullex locks are built with long-term reliability in mind, ensuring consistent operation even under demanding test conditions.

Freezeguard 3 Star Cylinder: Performance in All Conditions Alongside the locking system, the cylinder plays a critical role in both security and operational reliability. UAP’s Freezeguard 3 Star cylinder is designed to perform in challenging environmental conditions, helping to ensure that doorsets remain functional even in extreme cold. As part of a PAS 24-compliant doorset, consistent cylinder performance is essential not only to resist attack but also to maintain usability during testing and in real- world applications. By combining enhanced security credentials with durability and resilience, the Freezeguard cylinder supports the overall integrity of the door system, ensuring that environmental factors do not compromise compliance or performance. TS008 Letterplates: A Critical Security Component While often overlooked, letterplates are a common vulnerability in residential doors. PAS 24 testing specifically evaluates whether intruders can exploit openings, such as letter plates, to gain access.

UAP’s TS008 Soterian letterplates are designed to mitigate this risk. TS008 certification refers to enhanced security standards developed to resist manipulation techniques such as fishing and tool- based attacks through the letterplate aperture. When incorporated into PAS 24-compliant doorsets, TS008 letterplates provide resistance against intrusion attempts through the door aperture, robust construction to withstand physical attack, compatibility with fire-rated and security-rated door systems. UAP’s range includes TS008 fire-rated letterplates, ensuring that both security and fire performance requirements can be met in a single solution. Because PAS 24 assesses the full doorset, the inclusion of a compliant letterplate is essential. Even the strongest lock can be undermined by a weak or poorly specified auxiliary component. Supporting Hardware: The Complete Security Ecosystem Beyond locks and letterplates, PAS 24 compliance depends on a complete ecosystem of hardware. UAP

offers a comprehensive portfolio of complementary products including: high-security escutcheons, door handles engineered for durability, cylinders and masterkey systems, door viewers, and door chains. Each of these elements contributes to the doorset’s overall performance. For example, security escutcheons protect cylinders from attack, while reinforced handles prevent forced entry attempts from compromising access points. Importantly, many UAP products are also accredited by recognised schemes such as Secured by Design and BSI Kitemark, providing additional assurance of quality and performance. Achieving First-Time PAS 24 Success One of the biggest challenges for door manufacturers is achieving PAS 24 compliance on the first test attempt. Failure can result in high costs, delays, and reputational impact. UAP addresses this by taking a customer-led approach, working with manufacturers to specify complete hardware packages that have already undergone extensive testing and validation.

By combining proven components, such as multipoint locks, TS008 letterplates, Freezeguard cylinders, and compatible accessories, UAP reduces the risk of failure and helps streamline the path to certification. Integrated Security You Can Trust PAS 24 compliance is about more than meeting a standard; it’s about delivering real-world security performance. Because the standard evaluates the doorset as a whole, every component must work together flawlessly. UAP’s range of TS008 letterplates, multipoint locks, Freezeguard 3 Star cylinders, and supporting hardware is designed with this principle at its core. By offering a fully integrated solution, UAP enables door manufacturers to achieve compliance efficiently, confidently, and cost-effectively. In an environment where security expectations continue to rise, choosing the right hardware partner is essential. With UAP, every component contributes to a stronger, more resilient doorset, ready to meet the demands of PAS 24 testing and beyond.
