years in a row and was essentially the same team both years. I take my hat off to Thimeth Wijesinghe, our club captain, as he has had five years in the A team and leaves the club having a deservedly successful final year. He is a great role model to his younger A team members and keeps the junior team players in line with his encouraging and mature approach during training. Our Year 9 boys have proven to be a strong group, with many having a successful first year. They will become the backbone of the club in years to come. They only just lost to the higher-ranked D team in pool play and had Covid-19 not ravaged their ranks over the season, I believe they would have been more successful in their grade.

A special thanks to Ollie Du Toit as a wonder sub, willing to play in any team in need all season – a huge help in such a pandemic-affected year. Kate Belton and Craig Walker must be recognised for all the van driving on Mondays to training at Badminton Hall and Wednesday games, and offering constant sideline support for the full range of teams all year. The club awaits our new gym opening in 2024 so that we can return to training and playing on-site, which will be a major improvement on our current time and travel-restricted programme.
