Harry Sharr

HM Chrystall Prize for All-round Merit in Sport and Scholarship Harry has maintained very high academic standards, while immersing himself in his sporting, leadership and cultural activities. He has received two Gold Badges for his NCEA results. Harry has participated widely and at a high level in sport. He has been an integral part of the 1st XI football team for the past two years, demonstrating dedication and commitment. He has extended these opportunities further with involvement in both coaching and refereeing. He is a dependable team player who both supports and leads. Harry has also been a key member of the 1st XI cricket team, through his leadership, attitude and care of others. He has worked hard at his cricketing tasks and is a very unselfish player. His fielding is excellent and he displays fine sportsmanship. He is trustworthy, helpful, loyal and enthusiastic. He has also regularly competed, and found success, in school swimming and athletics competitions. To his credit, Harry has engaged in the holistic education offered at College by also being involved in drama productions and service activities, in addition to his leadership role as Head of House.

Ollie Jones

Somes Prize for Outstanding Overall Contribution to the Arts and General Scholarship Ollie has a strong track record in scholarship, with Gold Badges awarded in 2021 and 2022. He has been diligent in his commitment to his studies this year and undertaken a university STAR course successfully. His contribution to the arts has been impressive. In drama, he has starred in Private Peaceful , High School Musical 2 , The Frogs , Evita , The Shakespearean Banquet , As You Like It , Teechers , and Light at the End of the Tunnel , among others. In his dramatic endeavours, he has been reliable, kind, hard-working, creative and determined. He has also been a committed chorister and displayed exceptional choral skills in Schola Cantorum and the Chapel Choir in his time at College. He was also a member of the 2021–2022 New Zealand Secondary Students’ Choir, where he was a soloist. This choir won the 2022 Children’s Choir of the World Award at the Llangollen International Eisteddfod in Wales. He has Grade 8 for Singing from Trinity College, London. Ollie has been awarded three Drama Honours Ties, two Choral Honours Ties and an Honours Tie for Theatresports. He has mentored younger students in their cultural pursuits. All of this has been undertaken while meeting his many other school commitments, including his role as Deputy Head Prefect.

Yusef Elnahas

Maling Memorial Prize for Outstanding Service to the School Yusef’s contributions to College and the wider community have been extraordinary and far-reaching. He is driven by a moral imperative to be the best he can be and to dedicate himself to the good of others. This citation will not do justice to the breadth and depth of his contributions, but here are some of the highlights. He has had a profound impact as a co-founder of Academe, the tutoring programme for the children of the Mosque terrorist attack victims. In the process, he has logged more than 600 hours of community service in his time at College, and has received the Student Volunteer Army’s Gold Award, plus the award for the most number of hours this year – 141 hours. He has been on three student committees. This year, he has been a very active and constructive member of the senior Round Square Committee and we will always remember his leadership of the successful Ramadan Awareness event. He has been a Chapel Prefect, a senior debater, a member of the Chapel Choir and Schola Cantorum, and a participant in many drama productions. He has received a Ministry of Education Emerging Ethnic Leaders award. In all of this, he has harnessed his top strengths, including teamwork and social intelligence, to best effect. Yusef is an extraordinary young man, destined to make a difference in the world, and we thank him for his service.
