a place in the South Island finals of the Chamber Music NZ Schools’ Competition. House Music was a great success for Condell’s House. This year, our instrumental group won the DJ Ellison Instrumental Cup with its amazing performance of Cheek to Cheek by Irving Berlin. Bruce Chen (piano), Sean Jang (oboe), Matthew Brett (drums), Nate Ovendale (alto saxophone) and Sam Cross (bass) certainly set a very high standard. The House Choir performance earned us second place with an energetic and entertaining rendition of Love Story by Taylor Swift. Michael Taylor, the conductor, did a superb job and, alongside Archer Oliver, brought added energy and entertainment to the performance. In the end, the camaraderie of the House really showed through, making the choir memorable. The boys supported each other in the lead up to this event, with the positivity and teamwork across the year groups great to see. Thanks to the Year 13 team for coordinating the practices. Our instrumental backing group for this song also won third place and was composed of Richard Brown, Matthew Brett, Bruce Chen and George Pearse. Reaction House Plays Festival Congratulations to those students involved in the House Play this year, particularly to Harry Sharr who chose the play, the roles,
organised rehearsals, and positively encouraged, led, and coordinated the group. It was brilliant to see all those involved work together as a team across year groups and enjoy the process. Harry Sharr won a Director’s Award, Santino Felitti-Duter and Max Topham won Actor Awards, and the backstage crew were mentioned for the fantastic lighting. The extra hours and time put into this by them is appreciated by the House and they certainly created an entertaining show. Well done to Harry Sharr, Levi Astle, Alex Speight, Flynn Topham, Rocco Barker, Ed Cochran, Archer Oliver, Santino Felitti-Duter, Matthew Brett, Alan Viles, Noah Yee, Max Topham, Oscar Compton-Moen, Nicholas Sharr, Charlie Doutch, Angus Vincent, Jack Hastie, Sammy O’Connell and Felipe Felitti-Duter. Also thanks to the backstage crew of Elliott Grey, Sam Cross, Sean Jang and Fraser McGregor. House Sport In junior cricket, our team narrowly missed out in the final to Corfe House this year, but really enjoyed the competition. The junior students have been busy and have contributed enthusiastically to House sport. There were convincing wins at House badminton for Kennedy Xiao, George Wilson and Charlie Doutch. Thanks to Noah Yee for supporting
that team to finish equal with Richards in making the House final. In House tennis, Jack Hansen-Ratter, George Wilson, Ason Gu and Charlie Doutch were successful. They finished equal with Corfe in making the House final. HOUSE DINNER The House Dinner was a lovely evening. It was fantastic to see all the family connections and friendships, some reunions of Old Boys and, of course, the boys just enjoying the company of their peers and celebrating each other’s achievements. Our first fundraising event for the Westpac Rescue Helicopter was also a success, thanks to the work of Olivia Austin, the students, and the generosity of the Condell’s community.
