Imperial College Healthcare-Redevelopment Technical Director

AIM OF THE ROLE: The redevelopment programme at Imperial College Healthcare NHS Trust is driven by three main needs: • To support better care: Deliver optimal clinical outcomes in a modern care setting which supports the provision of integrated specialist services to help patients recover quickly and remain well. •To improve patient experience: Provide services in an environment that is as stress free as possible for patients, their carers and families, and ensure all staff are enabled to work safely and effectively. •To replace ageing buildings: Replace outdated buildings with a state-of-the-art modern hospital that is efficient, adopts best practice in healthcare design and technology, and is flexible to adapt to future changes in clinical use. The estates from which ICHT operate are in poor condition, suffer multiple failures and are unsuitable for modern day standards of care. The Trust accounts for nearly one third of backlog maintenance within the whole of the NHS estate. To address this ICHT has established a new hospitals redevelopment programme to build new and significantly modernise the main hospital sites at St. Mary’s, Charring Cross and Hammersmith. Working within the redevelopment team to deliver the ICHT redevelopment programme this role will ensure the programme properly considers and is at the forefront of design and construction thinking to deliver high quality, adaptable and sustainable infrastructure supporting clinical teams to deliver world class care in a welcoming environment. As the technical lead you will look at how the built environment supports our ambitions to deliver net zero carbon infrastructure and flexible digital environments. The objectives of the redevelopment programme are: • A world class facility that’s future proof, adaptable and flexible. • An excellent environment for healing • A world class hub for transitional biomedical research • Net zero carbon developments • Transformation and new ways of working • A technology led digital environment • A great local environment to live, work and learn in a sustainable local community The Government’s Healthcare Infrastructure Plan (HIP) has outlined a commitment to deliver a long-term, rolling five-year programme of investment in health infrastructure; at the centre of which is a new hospital building programme to provide capital to build new hospitals, invest in new diagnostics and technology, and help eradicate critical safety issues in the NHS estate.. ICHT has been approved for HIP2 funding to support the planned redevelopment of its estates at Charing Cross Hospital (CXH) and Hammersmith Hospital (HH). Although the place of the St Mary’s Hospital redevelopment on the HIP schemes is not yet finalised, both need and opportunity have led to the Trust Board prioritising proposals for this site. 9
