Special unit investigates death near Saint-Bernardin eLearning program grows More students at Upper Canada district schools are doing part of their classwork studies in cyberspace as part of their regular career curriculum work. More than 900 UCDSB students are using eLearning in school compared to 289 when the program began during the 2008-2009 term. Program administrators are working on streamlining the UCDSB eLearning even, including providing professional development opportunities for teachers at UCDSB schools to help them keep up with changing information technology, so they are better able to assist their students. – Gregg Chamberlain Cleanout for municipal drains It is spring cleaning time for 11 municipal drains in Champlain Township, and property owners in the neighborhoods of those drains can expect a notice from the municipality for their share of the expense. Township council approved bylaws authorizing the annual work at a total cost of $27,701.13. The amount property owners billed will have to pay depends on which municipal drain serves their neighborhood. The lowest cleanup cost for one drain is $305.28 while the most expensive drain cleanup is $5264.46. Some drains require just cleaning out the ditch of sediment debris while others need either replacement or repairs to culverts. In a few cases, township staff has to remove beaver dams that have caused the drains to back up. – Gregg Chamberlain
