REGULATION Retail environments are subject to the Workplace (Health, Safety and Welfare) Regulations 1992, requiring employers to provide a reasonable indoor temperature for staff. Building Regulations Approved Document F, Volume 2 (enforced June 2022) sets ventilation requirements for non-domestic buildings including retail, mandating adequate fresh air supply and, in new builds, continuous CO₂ monitoring. Energy systems above 12kW cooling capacity must be regularly inspected under the Energy Performance of Buildings Regulations 2012.
