Family Reunions and Drive-In Movies My Summer Calendar

Every other year, my family meets up for an extended family reunion. As we’ve grown older, we’ve spread out geographically. These reunions are important because they allow us to see each other, catch up, and spend some valuable family time together. I can’t speak for everyone in my family, but I’d be willing to guess it’s an event every Stevenson looks forward to. I know I sure do. We rotate hosting duties, and this year the responsibility falls on my brother. He lives in California, but he’s decided to plan the get- together at Bear Lake, which is on the Utah-Idaho border. Maybe he’s playing to the crowd because most of us live closer to Bear Lake than his home, but it’s hard to imagine a better location for our biennial gathering. We’ll have the chance to get away from it all and bond with one another, all amid some of the most serene beauty in our region. Who wouldn’t love that? If the reunion is the big event on my personal calendar this summer, our Patient Appreciation Night is the big one on the Trailridge Family Dental calendar. For the past few years — time flies so fast that I can’t recall if it’s six or seven years — we’ve hosted a drive-in movie night at the Parma Motor-Vu. The 2019 event will be held on Aug. 5. We’d love for you to join us for this fun evening. All you have to do to secure tickets for yourself and your family is stop by our office and ask. In an effort to make this year’s Patient Appreciation Night even more fun than it’s been in years prior, we’re going to have a few extra flourishes. Normally, we offer everyone a free popcorn and soft drink. That will still happen this year, but we’ve got a few surprises up our sleeves in addition to refreshments. I don’t want to reveal anything just yet, but let’s just say you may want to arrive a little before the movie begins for some bonus fun.

We will be showing the new Lion King this year. We don’t want anyone to be excluded from the festivities. All of our patients, even the littlest ones, make a huge contribution to our practice. We want to share our appreciation for all of you. The best part of these events, I’ve come to learn, is that they offer a chance to interact with our patients outside of the confines of the office. It’s rare that we get an opportunity to sit and talk with the folks we serve, let alone to do so on such a grand scale. It means a lot for us as a practice to be able to share some laughs and say thanks for all you’ve done to help us grow and thrive over the years. Thank you all so much for continuing to visit and support Trailridge Family Dental. I hope you’ll join us for our annual Patient Appreciation Night. If you’ve never been to a drive-in and always wondered what it would be like, now’s the time to check it out for yourself.

I wish everyone reading this a happy summer full of fun, sun, and good times with loved ones,

–Dr. Stevenson

What Options Are Available

to You? BRIGHTEN YOUR TEETH

P erfectly white teeth framed by a great smile have been a highly sought-after feature for centuries, starting 4,000 years ago with the Egyptians. However, over the years, the teeth whitening process has advanced beyond using a paste of ground pumice and wine vinegar. We now have a number of products at our disposal to get whiter teeth faster and more effectively. Here are a few ways you can whiten your teeth today. IN-OFFICE BLEACHING Giving your dentist the job of whitening your teeth will produce the best results, though it might take a little longer and can be a little more expensive than an at-home bleaching kit. The bleaching sessions themselves don’t last long — usually about an hour — but require multiple visits for the desired shade of white. Also, it’s important to consider that if at-home kits are used incorrectly, they can lead to bleached or even burned gums, which is why many people prefer having their dentists perform the procedure for them.

GELS AND WHITENING STRIPS These options are applied directly to the teeth, either with a tray or a thin strip. They offer a slightly less expensive method than in-office bleaching, costing anywhere from $10–$55, but they take much longer. Depending on the peroxide used in the products, they will need to be applied to teeth twice a day for several days or weeks until the desired result is achieved. TOOTHPASTES AND RINSES Both of these options are meant to remove stains through regular use, but whitening products contain chemicals that will help remove stains as well as brighten them at least one shade. However, these products aren’t made to bleach the teeth and will make a minimal difference in whitening. No matter which method you choose to use, you should speak to your dentist first if you’re planning to whiten your teeth. They can help you decide the best and healthiest route to take.

DISNEY’S LIVE-ACTION REMAKES IN 2019 The Power of Nostalgia

live-action. Other major stars in the film include Danny DeVito, Michael Keaton, and Eva Green. ‘ALADDIN,’ MAY 2019 The original “Aladdin” hit theaters in 1992, ultimately pulling in Oscars for best score and best song. Now, 27 years later, Disney has decided to retain many of the original’s musical and narrative elements. While fans of the first film will surely miss hearing the voice of the late Robin Williams, the genie will still play a central role in the film’s story and will be brought to life by Will Smith. Actors Mena Massoud and Naomi Scott will play Aladdin and Jasmine, respectively. ‘THE LION KING,’ JULY 2019 The original film became one of the biggest animated features at the time of its release in 1994, and all of the beloved characters will return in a live-action/CGI version. While James Earl Jones will return as the voice for Mufasa, the remake will also feature Donald Glover as Simba, Beyoncé Knowles-Carter as Nala, Chiwetel Ejiofor as Scar, John Oliver as Zazu, and Seth Rogen as Pumbaa, as well as a long list of other talented men and women. Hopefully these three remakes will dredge up some of the same wonder and joy the original stories evoked.

Even if someone doesn’t consider themselves a movie buff, they’ve likely heard about Disney’s decision to harness — and capitalize on — the power of viewer nostalgia with live-action remakes of its beloved classics. Back in 1996, Disney tested this formula for the first time, releasing “101 Dalmatians” with Glenn Close starring as the brilliantly deranged Cruella stalking puppies for their fur. After breaking box office records on the first weekend, Disney decided to create a slow trickle of other live- action remakes using the same blueprint: “Alice in Wonderland” in 2010, “Cinderella” in 2015, “The Jungle Book” in 2016, and “Beauty and the Beast” in 2017, among several others. By promising viewers the storyline they loved as a child, a star- studded cast, some vaguely cheeky references, 3D visuals, and added action, Disney has created a recipe for box office success. Here are three live-action remakes that have been or will be released in 2019. ‘DUMBO,’ MARCH 2019 Unlike the animated classic released in 1941, this live-action version introduces a former circus star, played by Colin Farrell, and his two children as caretakers of the big-eared, flying mammal. Directed by Tim Burton, “Dumbo” doesn’t use real elephants on screen. Disney instead uses a mixture of CGI and

The Trailridge Team had a blast participating in the Old Fort Boise Days parade and fun run! We also participated in the Wilder parade and received first place and $100, which will be used for our Guatemala Dental Service mission in 2020.
