“I picked up hints and tips from them, learned how to frame, light and edit a shot, and spent a lot of time finding the right subjects and developing my eye.” Thimeth Wijesinghe enjoyed the “holidays” prior to the resumption of the term, and took a novel approach to remote learning, choosing to wear his College uniform. “I didn’t for the first couple of days, but then found I was easily distracted. Putting on my uniform helped me get in the zone; it helped me realise I should be focusing on schoolwork and so I’d sit down and get stuck in. When I changed out of my uniform at the end of the day, it created a distinct separation between ‘work’ and ‘home’.” Like a lot of others, he also included an exercise component to his day. “Mine was to exercise for at least 20 minutes, and to walk the dog. And I found I felt better for doing it.” Housemasters stepped up to the Covid-19 challenge devising fun, physical and mindful activities to reflect and foster the character attributes and strengths of the real College man. And let’s not forget the staff whose online efforts kept academic learning on track throughout the lock down weeks. Working from home all agree, has its advantages; but there are equally as many disadvantages when home is also your workplace, and families were sharing spaces.
