Today, Steve Evans is chairman of a firm with a turnover in excess of £55m and employing more than 850 staff. It has probably trained more apprentices than any other business in the county and continues to expand, fitting out thousands of new-build homes annually. Clarkson Evans was featured in the recent Sunday Times BDO Profits Track 100 listing with a 55.14 per cent growth in turnover for the year to September 2017. It had an annual profit at the time of £3,905,000 and a total annual sales of £52,157,000 and 791 staff l 43 ability to sell quality used cars and deliver a reliable service. Selling what he called “his toys” to help fund the business, he went ‘all in’ – and what seemed like a gamble has proved to be shrewd business sense.
