Fire Integrated Real Time Intelligence Systems (FIRIS)
What is FIRIS – FIRIS is an all-hazard emergency support program consisting of multiple functions to gather and disseminate timely remote sensing products to incident commander and other senior leaders throughout the State structure. AEVEX provides the aircraft, sensors, Fusion Centers, and crews who respond statewide to any incident where remote sensing will increase situation awareness of an incident. WIFIRE is a partnership with the UCSD supercomputer and highly specialized modelers to build fire models and 6-hour predictions using the remote sensing data produced by the AEVEX crews.
Flexible: AEVEX's, full spectrum airborne information solutions provides our customers and partners with proven products and services for agile and effective Incident Assessment and Awareness missions. Local: AEVEX, a California based Company that employs 163 California residents, supports the California State Budget and specifically FIRIS with cost-effective customized airborne remote sensing solutions to provide California leaders and public communities with real time
decision quality products in the most demanding and dynamic environments of All Hazard emergencies. Innovative: AEVEX provides an integrated multi-sensor airborne solution that produces products compatible with existing emergency services infrastructure through satellite broadband and cellular LTE systems delivering rapid and definitive validation for federal Fire Management Assistance (FMAG) reimbursements.
AEVEX maintains a proven track record of success on FIRIS, having provided over 3000 accident-free flight hours and over 43,000 standby hours.

Statewide Emergency Awareness
Since 2020, AEVEX first supported Orange County Fire Authority on FIRIS then transitioned the program over to California’s Office of Emergency Services in June 2023. We collaborated with these agencies to mature the concept adding sensors, new technologies, additional aircraft, and extended aircraft and Fusion Center operations to better serve the people of California.
Custom and Flexible Software Backbone
AEVEX’s own GeoFOCIS integrated mission management software is the backbone of the
airborne architecture, integrating multiple sensors and communication systems into a comprehensive collection and dissemination system. The software processes the data to create tailored products and the information is then sent via satellite and cellular LTE for immediate use by California senior leaders and first responders on computer and mobile devices. Products are also shared with UCSD for further processing resulting in highly accurate incident mapping and forecast modeling.
Quick Reaction Capability Solutions The AEVEX Quick Reaction Capability (QRC) team is comprised of subject matter experts that incorporate best practices from industry and our vast military experience with leading edge technology in sensors, collection, processing, and dissemination of critical information. AEVEX brings the same QRC capability to the state of CA and the FIRIS program as we do to our most demanding DoD and industry customers. This QRC team successfully expanded FIRIS support from 1 12-hour and 1 24-hour available aircraft for 6-months to 2 aircraft supporting 24/7 365 operations. Increased capability by adding all weather radar, Automated Information System (AIS) and FM radio for maritime operations, and Team Awareness Kit (TAK) system for near real time dissemination to handheld devices.
Advancing Actionable Intelligence…
AEVEX FIRIS support is advancing the rapid dissemination of decision quality data for Initial Awareness and Assessment to statewide decision makers with highly detailed and accurate data products . Key Capabilities • Electro optical and infrared turret with live streaming • Multi-band step/stare camera with image blending • Radar to gather incident data through clouds, marine layers, smoke, and degraded atmospherics
• Multiple radio and Internet connectivity packages allow for real time data transmission to Emergency Services personnel • Satellite connectivity for remote data gathering and dissemination • All products are in standardized formats familiar to the community
