Genesis, Chapters Two and Three The stories of creation as recorded in the Scripture are clear, plain, and easi ly understood. The stories concocted by men of learning and leaders in educa tional circles are complex, profound, and murky. No two evolutionists agree in their philosophies. No school of evolu tionary thought continues for any great length of time. Each school is superseded by another with different ideas and sug gestions. The Word of God plainly states the facts and the believer accepts them. The believer is sure that God made the trees, pansies, sheep, whales, violets, human beings and flies. Faith takes God at His Word and shuts out reasonings of darkened minds. Matthew 13:18-23 The parables are filled with instruc tive material for our hearts and lives. By means of these we are directed in our Christian work and in our daily living. In this particular story we are impressed with the value of the Word of God. We also see the lack of value of most human hearts. The soil in many hearts is not receptive to the living Word of God. The world in general has little use for God’s truth and little hunger for God’s fellowship. We are impressed with the fact that the Word of God accomplishes the work of God. The value of the seed does not depend on the kind of hand that plants it. God’s Word is powerful in itself. Matthew 25:14-30 Here we have the story told by our blessed Lord in regard to the talents that He gives to His people. In this story He gave five talents to one servant, two talents to another, and one talent to a third. All of these talents were valuable for a talent was worth approximately six hundred dollars. The story illustrates the quality not the quantity of our gifts. Every gift possessed by every Christian is of great value. We should use what ever gift we have whether it be great or small. We should not be discouraged if we have one because we see others with five. Let us invest the one well. Luke 15 :l-32 In the first parable we learn of the love of the Lord Jesus, the Great Shep herd of the sheep, for each of His sheep and lambs. He wants to protect them and preserve them and provide for them. They are His sheep. The sheep that went astray was not a goat. It is a descrip tion of the wandering one who seeks .better pasture outside the fence. From the second story we learn that the Holy Spirit would like to see the child of God in circulation and useful ness. The coin was of no use to society while it was hidden away. In the third parable we learn that the father desires the fellowship of His children who have sought blessing away from the Father’s house.

quite like those found in Genesis. The next book ends in Psalm 72:20 and con tains similar truths to those in Exodus. The third book ends at Psalm 89:52 and reveals such truths as are found in Le viticus. The fourth book ends at Psalm 106:48 and contains comparable truths to those in Numbers. The last book ends at Psalm 150:6 in which we find similar truths to those in the hook of Deuteron omy. The doctrines of the Word are found in these five books. John The fourth Gospel was written to bring men and women to believe in the Lord Jesus (John 20:31). Eight miracles are recorded in this wonderful book. The first and the last tell us that Jesus the Lord is necessary for daily food and drink. The second and the seventh teach us that only the Saviour can sustain life and give life. The third and the sixth teach us that only the Saviour can enable us to walk as we should and to see things in their proper light. The fourth and fifth teach us that only Christ can put away our fears. Christ Himself is the center of the book and we are called upon to put our faith and trust in that lovely Lord. First Corinthians This letter was written to a church in which there were many things wrong. There are no prayers recorded in this book as there are in Ephesians for the Corinthians did not need to be prayed for. They needed to be taught the truth of God. There is a time for teaching and a different situation that calls for pray er. It is in this book that we read about filthiness of the flesh and of the spirit. It is here that we read concerning church judgment on those who live wicked lives. It is in this book that we aré told definitely and in detail about the meaning of the resurrection and the blessedness of the resurrected life. This book is written to make ungodly men godly. July 15, 1951 FAMOUS BIBLE STORIES Gen. 2:4; 3:24; Matt. 13:18-23; 25:14-30 Luke 15:1-32 The stories in the Bible are recorded for our instruction and blessing. We should learn from these stories the ob vious lessons that are there and apply them to our own lives. God’s Word was not written to entertain us but was written to enrich us and enable us to carry out the will, the thought, and the plans of God. The stories are filled with truths which should be applied by our selves to ourselves. Thereby we grow in grace and learn to walk with God. By this means we become more and more like Christ and are better prepared to live for Him here and with Him over there.
