NEW SEASON FOR POPULAR SERIES Michael Fassbender in a web of espionage deception The continuation of tense thriller series The Agency brings an even faster pace and deeper emotions, and the Hollywood superstar reveals how he brought to life a double agent trapped between professional duty and personal salvation T he world of high espionage and secret services has always fascinated audiences, but the series The Agency takes this genre to a completely new lev-

What new challenges does your character face this season? “What’s interesting about my char- acter this season is that his actions be- come increasingly reckless. In many ways, he has no choice. The clock is ticking, every second matters, Samia’s life is at risk, and his position as a double agent is far more exposed than it was in season one. Martian was much more measured last season, but now everything is driven by the end goal. Henry Ogletree (Jeffrey Wright) and Naomi (Katherine Water- ston) are both onto him. It very much feels like the walls are closing in and he’s deter- mined to complete his mission, whatev- er the consequences. At the same time, his relationship with his daughter Poppy is growing stronger, which shows anoth- er side to him, but the risk of that fall- ing apart also causes Martian real pain.” What surprised you most about this season? “Season one introduced the charac- ters at a slower pace. What I love about season two is that it has much more mo- mentum and energy. Full credit goes to the writers – every interaction has multi- ple layers, and what we learn about each character comes through the choices they make, which is incredibly smart. The sto- ry is always moving, and every charac- ter comes to the forefront for a reason. Each of them gets to have their moment, which adds another layer to the story- telling and keeps the audience hooked.” Were there any memorable moments behind the scenes this season when filming? “One of the most memorable parts of filming this season was going to Ken-

el of authenticity. The plot follows “Mar- tian”, a charismatic and deeply complex CIA undercover agent who receives or- ders to abandon his cover identity and return to the station office in London. However, returning to reality brings dead- ly complications when Samia, the wom- an he fell in love with while undercover, reappears in his life. While the first sea- son gradually builds tension and intro- duces us to the brutal, granular world of intelligence services, where every word can be fatal, the second season picks up a much more furious pace (both seasons are available on the SkyShowtime plat- form). The pressure builds, the clock is ticking, and Michael Fassbender reveals what happens when the walls close in and the masks finally fall. What can audiences expect from season two? “Season two really picks up from where we left off at the end of season one. The main objective for the first sea- son was all about introducing these char- acters and the universe we were going to be operating in. Everything ramped right up to the end, where we realised that Martian is going to become a dou- ble agent. Season two picks up that in- tense pace and doesn’t let up. It feels like a vice grip that just gets tighter with each episode. The audience knows my charac- ter is a double agent now and knows that the clock is ticking. His focus is to find a way to get Samia to safety without be- ing caught by the people he works for.”
