Nišville (13 th –16 th August) The international Nišville Jazz Fes- tival has long since grown beyond the boundaries of the traditional jazz gen- re, boldly combining classic jazz with Bal- kan ethnic motifs, funk and soul. What makes Nišville a unique global phenom- enon is its location: the magical Fortress of Niš. Within its stone walls, on over a dozen stages, world legends and young talents take turns performing, while the whole city breathes in the rhythm of jazz over the days of the festival. Alongside the main programme, the festival offers a record number of free open-air stages, a theatre programem, film screenings and a unique Jazz for Kids programme, proving that this really is music for everyone. Belgrade Beer Fest (28 th –23 rd August) The finale of the summer season is reserved for Belgrade and a tradition that dates back more than two decades. Belgrade‘s Ušće confluence of the Sava and Danube sees the annual Beer Fest bring together hundreds of thousands of people eager to experience top mu- sic production and unstoppable energy. Regional rock and pop icons, alongside guest performers from the world of al- ternative music, guarantee a spectacular event under an open sky. Apart from providing a veritable marathon of music, this festival rep- resents the largest event of its kind in Southeast Europe, offering over 300 different beer brands from around the world.
Guča Trumpet Festival (7 th –9 th August) The craziness of August tradition- ally kicks off in Dragačevo. Guča is the world’s largest festival of brass bands and a phenomenon that’s been attract- ing visitors from all over the world for decades. This is a place where the boundaries between the performers and the audience blur, and where Ser- bia’s best trumpet orchestras compete to win the prestigious Golden Trumpet. The sound of hundreds of instruments simultaneously resounding through the hills creates a uniquely cathartic atmos- phere of pure Balkan temperament. Created in 1961 as a modest compe- tition between just four orchestras in a local churchyard, it has grown to become a global brand. And the secret of its ap- peal lies in the fact that here the trum- pet isn’t played on the basis of notes, but from the soul, with the knowledge passed down from generation to genera- tion within famous trumpet dynasties.
