day. The Lord shall open unto thee his good treasure, the heaven to give the rain unto thy land in his season, and to bless all the work of thine hand: and thou shalt lend unto many nations, and thou shalt not borrow.” T hese words are supposed to be fulfilled in the Anglo-Saxon race, the members of which are recog- ni 2 ed as the world’s greatest bankers, lending to many nations and borrowing from none! We shall not mention the war debts of the Anglo-Saxons, for that would be too embarrassing. We ask only for a careful reading of the text, which reveals that the statement refers to Israel in the land and not the British in England, " . . . the Lord shall make thee plenteous in goods, in the fruit of thy body, and in the fruit of thy cattle, and in the fruit of thy

. of different languages succeeds only in displaying the pov erty of its proofs.” The interpretation given to Numbers 23 :9 is strange indeed: "For from the top of the rocks I see him, and from the hills I behold him: lo, the people shall dwell alone, and shall not be reckoned among the nations.” This utterance made by Balaam is made to mean that a portion of Israel (Britain) was to be an isolated or an inland nation which is-fulfilled in the British Isles. This reference cannot apply to Britain, however, because Britain is reckoned among the nations. She was in the Roman Empire and is today a member of the United Nations. When the times of the Gentiles closes, she will be found in the Roman Empire revived. How gullible people must be when they accept such interpretation of Scriptures which are so clear in their meaning that comment is scarcely needed. When were the following prophecies ever fulfilled in the history of Great Britain or the United States? "And thou shalt become an astonishment, a proverb, and a byword, among all nations whither the Lord shall lead thee.” "The stranger that is within thee shall get up above thee very high; and thou shalt come down very low. He shall lend to thee, and thou shalt not lend to him: he shall be the head, and thou shalt be the tail.” "Therefore shalt thou serve thine enemies which the Lord shall send against thee, in hunger, and in thirst, and in nakedness, and in want of all things: and he shall put a yoke of iron upon thy neck, until he have destroyed thee.” "And thou shalt eat the fruit of thine own body, the flesh of thy sons and of thy daughters, which the Lord thy God hath given thee, in the siege, and in the straitness, wherewith thine enemies shall distress thee.” "And ye shall be left few in number, whereas ye were as the stars of heaven for multitude; because thou wouldest not obey the voice of the Lord thy God.” "And the Lord shall scatter thee among all people, from the one end of the earth even unto the other; and there shalt thou serve other gods, which neither thou nor thy fathers have known, even wood and stone. And among these nations shalt thou find no ease, neither shall the sole of thy foot have rest: but the Lord shall give thee there a trembling heart, and failing of eyes, and sorrow of mind” (Deut. 2 8 :3 7 ,4 3 ,4 4 ,4 8 53 62, 64, 6 5 ). Now let us bear in mind that all of this was spoken to all Israel. Read this chapter carefully and then read in your history books the account of the destruction of Jerusalem in the year 70 A.D. You will find there the fulfillment of the horrors predicted in this chapter, parents eating the flesh of their children, and other unspeakable things. I f you have ever studied the history of Great Britain and the United States, you know that no such events have ever occurred in their history. Yet the Anglo- Israelite insists that the Anglo-Saxons are Israel! Some of the misinterpretations of the Word of God by this cult are even more serious than those given and border on blasphemy. For instance, the glorious Messianic prophecy in Daniel 2, concerning the stone which was to be cut out of the mountain "without hands” and which smote the image of Nebuchadnezzar, clearly refers to the Lord Jesus Christ in His coming to set up His kingdom. Anglo-Israelism makes it mean the British people and Britain’s king. Great Britain, which is one of the Gentile world kingdoms and C O N T IN U ED 27

ground, in the land which the Lord sware unto thy fathers to give thee.” Then follows the verse which we have previously quoted containing the promise of rain and blessing on their work, and the statement about lending and not having to borrow. A word should be said concerning the philological and ethnological claims which have been advanced in support of this theory. It is asserted that the word British is derived from two Hebrew words: brith meaning covenant; and ish meaning man, thus making British mean the covenant man. Every Britisher, according to them, is a Brithish. A careful study of the Hebrew language, under the guidance of a real Hebrew scholar, will show the error in such translations. David Baron, the great Hebrew scholar, said: This suggestion of the word British being derived from the two words Brith and ish deserves no other characteriza tion than childish.” The British Isles were originally called Barantanic which means tin islands because great quantities of tin came from England’s mines in Cornwall. The. word British is a deriva tion from this word. Still more ridiculous is the explanation that the word Saxon is also Hebrew and that it means Isaac’s sons. The Anglo-Israelites claim that each Britisher is an Isaac son. O f this absurdity one outstanding Hebrew scholar has written: "Anyone claiming correspondence between the Hebrew term Isaac’s son and Saxon is woefully ignorant of the Hebrew. Isaac in Hebrew is Yitshok, and son is ben. Isaac’s son is Ben Yitshok. A religious system that seeks to justify its claims by an appeal to resemblance in words
