Also against strong competition, Rebecca was 2nd equal in the Musical Theatre up to 1965 class and Amelia was commended in the 14 and under Vocal Solo class. Fallon had a great Festival, coming second in the Open Vocal Solo class and winning the Musical Theatre up to 1965 class. Our Prep School musicians enjoyed success too: Elizabeth was awarded a distinction in the 8 and under beginners ’ piano class and our 46 strong Year 5 and 6 Choir received a commendation in the 10 years and under Junior Choirs class, after performing three songs against strong opposition. Overall it has been one of the most successful Festivals to date with Queen ’ s once again showing the calibre of its musicians. Many congratulations to all those who participated and achieved so highly.
It has been a busy fortnight for the musicians of Queen ’ s at the Taunton Music Festival but it has been fantastic for the students to have the opportunity to perform live to an adjudicator and audience. The first week of the festival is dedicated to instrumental music and our players did extremely well in this competitive field. Shao Shen entered three classes, winning his Cello Solo class and coming second in the Beethoven class. Felicity came second in the Grade 5 Piano class and Georgian and Hannah came 2nd and 3rd respectively in the Woodwind Solo category. The second week saw our vocalists in action, singing in classes where the standard was incredibly high. Nevertheless, they rose to the challenge magnificently, matching the quality of their peers in every way. With great performances, Millie won her two classes of Musical Theatre 1960 - 99 and Musical Theatre 2000 onwards, with Jack achieving an impressive 3rd equal in his first Festival outing, also in the Musical Theatre 1960 - 99 category. Aria was in superb voice, achieving an excellent first in the Vocal Solo 1600 - 1900 class as well as winning the Musical Theatre up to 1965 class, and achieving second place in a particularly strong 14 and under Vocal Solo class.
